Darsheel Safary is today a household name. He is the boy who made you laugh and cry in his debut movie ‘Taare Zameen Par, the debut directorial venture of Aamir Khan. In the movie, he played the role of a dyslexic child, a child who is suffering from a disability that slows down the learning process. Born in 1996, this 11-year old kid has taken the Indian audience by surprise. Not only has his performance been applauded, but it has also brought to focus the problems faced by dyslexic children.
Darsheel is a very good dancer and is a student of Shiamak Davar Institute for the Performing Arts (SDIPA). Infact, it was through the academy only that he got the chance to be a part of Taare Zameen Par. Apart from winning Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance and two awards at the 2008 Star Screen Awards, Darsheel has also been nominated in the ‘Best Actor in a Lead Role’ category of Filmfare Awards, along with the great Shahrukh Khan. To think of it, Aamir Khan was also nominated in the same awards, but for ‘Best Actor in Supporting Role’.
A student of Green Lawns High School in Mumbai, Darsheel today boasts of being the brand ambassador for several children’s brands, one of which is the kidswear brand 'Oyo'. The child wonder has also made public appearances to launch kids-related products. His upcoming film projects include 'Bum Bum Bhole', the directorial venture of Priyadarshan, which revolves around the problem of insurgency in Assam and “Dedh”, a comedy movie that also stars the 'Munnabhai' - Sunjay Dutt.
