Is Alcoholism Inherited

It is a wedding party at your home and you notice something very strange on the dinner table. Your husband, son and his son, are all drunk! It reminds you of your father, grandfather and uncles who never missed a chance to pour down glasses of alcohol, only to get drunk. Nobody can blame you if you start wondering if alcoholism is inherited. Scientists claim that after conducting extensive research under laboratory conditions, they have found the link between alcoholism and genes. Children, whose parents are alcoholics, will gradually take a liking to alcohol sooner or later in life. According to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, children of alcoholics have four times more probability than other children to become alcoholics, though environmental factors could be a factor in many of those cases. So if you have had a drinking problem in your family, your kids are likely to start drinking when they become young adults! Check out some myths and facts about alcoholism which may surprise you!
