A Rhode Island Red can weigh anywhere between 6.5 to 8.5 pounds. Amazingly, this breed can lay up to three hundred eggs in a year, thereby making it a favorite pet amongst all chicken breeds. This breed can further be divided into single comb and rose comb.
 
Langshan
Originally from China, a Langshan is a tall chicken with long legs and tails. A very active and energetic bird, a Langshan is white in color and lays brown eggs. This breed is mostly preferred for meat rather than eggs. Weighing anywhere between 7.5 to 9.5 pounds, this breed is further classified into two varieties, namely, white Langshan and black Langshan.
 
Light Sussex
Rather than competing for meat or eggs, you would find the Light Sussex smartly walking down the ramp at beauty contests and state fairs. Comparing this breed in terms of egg laying, the Light Sussex is a good competitor to the Rhode Island Red chicken. This breed is capable of producing about two hundred and fifty eggs in one year period. 
 
Dorking
In case you have been longing for some succulent and luscious chicken meat, then Dorking is your take. Known for its finest quality of meat, the Dorking is originally from Italy though it was introduced to England by the Romans. With a rectangular body and short legs, this chicken is white in color and bears five toes. The Dorking lays white eggs and weighs around six pounds. Furthermore, this chicken breed is categorized into three varieties, namely, silver gray, white and colored.
 
Cornish
Originating from the county of Cornwall in England, a Cornish is regarded as the most premium chicken breed in terms of meat production. This broad and well-muscled breed is yellow in color and lays eggs brown in color. With a standard weight of about ten pounds, the Cornish chicken boasts of a good carcass shape due to its well-developed and arranged muscles. This breed can be found in dark, white, white laced and buff varieties.
