History
In 1971, David Leavitt noticed that the English Bulldog did not look like any of its ancestors that were healthy and less extreme. He wanted to produce a dog that looked like the canines of the 18th century, with a temperament of the present English Bulldog. Hence, he developed a new breed from the cross breeding of English Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Pit Bull and American Bulldog that came to be known as the Old English Bulldog. The breed, thus developed, was capable of running for miles, during the hot summer months and was three times better than the modern Bulldog.

Appearance
Well balanced and proportioned, the Old English Bulldog is a muscular medium-sized dog. The head of the dog is prominent and dramatic. Large and well-developed, the cheeks display powerful jaw muscles. The large and narrow skull is proportionate to the dog’s body, with the square muzzle being wide and deep, with a definite layback. The medium eyes range from being round to almond shaped. Widely set apart, the eyes are set low at the level of the muzzle. The eyes are brown colored with black pigmented eye rims. The large and broad nose is black in color. The ears can be either rose, tulip or button shaped. The tail is set low and tapers from base to the end. The short and close coat is of medium density. The coat can be found in different colors, such as brindle of red, gray, fawn or black; solid white, solid fawn, solid red or black or pied.

Temperament
Friendly and loving, the Old English Bulldog is determined, courageous, docile and fearless. Though fierce-looking, the dog is athletic, bold and friendly with family and friends. It is capable of protecting and guarding its master and property, when threatened. The Old English Bulldog can adapt to any lifestyle easily. The dog should be provided with moderate exercise to keep it toned and in good shape.

Genetic Diseases
The Old English Bulldog is a healthy breed, but it should be protected from extreme cold and heat conditions. However, problems like bloat and hip dysplasia can sometimes be seen in these dogs.

Grooming
Old English Bulldog is an average shedder and requires very little grooming.
