How to Walk in High Heels
- If you are wearing high heel sandals for the first time, it is better for you to buy a pair that has an ankle or some other type of strap. This enables the sandal to remain attached to your foot.
- Even amongst the sandals with straps or some other kind of support, it is very important to buy the right pair. After wearing both the sandals, move weight from one foot to the other. Make sure that your toes do not get cramped or cut into toe straps. At the same time, there should not be a large gap between the sole and the shoe bed, as you lift your foot.
- After the purchasing part is over, it is the time to wear the sandals. Step your foot into the sandal, with your heel down first, and then let the sole follow quickly and smoothly. Remember that the straps are better tight than loose, but they should not cause any discomfort.
- Stand up and balance your weight on both the feet. For the purpose, use your whole foot and do not try to stay on the ball of the foot.
- Just before you start walking, make sure to move your weight first, to the ball of your foot and then to the heel. After that, distribute your weight evenly between the ball and the heel of your foot.
- While walking, put your heel down first. Thereafter, roll the rest of the foot onto the ground. For taking the next step, push off with the ball of your foot and land on the heel first.
- Always keep your toes pointing straight ahead. If not totally, then as close to straight ahead as possible.
- You can swing your arms, as you walk, to provide balance. At the same time, keep your legs straight, close and parallel.
- Initially, walk with small steps, that too on a flat surface. Once you feel confident enough, start taking larger steps and also try walking on different types of terrain.
- While going up or down the stairs, hold on to handrails for balance. At the same time, make sure to keep your torso vertical and avoid leaning forward or back.
- Atleast in the initial stages, avoid walking on ice, slush, mud, grass, sand, gravel and grated surfaces. If you are not too comfortable with high heels, such surfaces can make you slip very easily.
