How to Clean Marble Table

A marble center table or a marble dining table definitely adds value to your home décor. However, maintaining the natural brilliance and shine of a marble table can be quite a challenge. Marble is a highly porous natural stone that is very predisposed to staining and damage. Caring for a marble table can be easy if you know the right technique and use the right cleaning agents. Choosing proper cleansing products is very essential as even a slightly acidic cleaning agent can also scar and pit the marble surface for good. Harsh cleaning agents can ruin your table finish beyond repair. So, always remember to choose mild and gentle cleaning agents or cleaners with neutral pH. Cleaning Marble Table

Method 1

• Soft Cotton Cloth
• Warm Water
• Mild Soap
• 2 small Towels

• Mix lukewarm water with a mild soap solution.
• Take a soft cloth soaked in the soap solution and wipe the marble table.
• Work in sections concentrating on small spots of rings or smudges of filth.
• Wipe the soap off with a small towel.
• Don’t rinse or leave the water to air dry. This will leave stains of water on your marble table.
• Use another clean towel to wipe the marble table until it dries completely.
• You may also use a cotton cloth or chamois to buff dry the table surface.
• Repeat the process, if smudges or rings are still there on the table.

Method 2

• Powdered Whiting
• Water
• Plastic Wrap
• Microfiber Cloth
• Small Towel
• Tape
• Clean Rugs

• Create a thick paste with the whitening powder in a small bowl.
• Apply the paste in generous quantities on the stained table.
• Take a plastic sheet and cover the area. Tape the edges down.
• Leave it for a couple of days until the paste dries completely.
• Once the paste dries completely, use a clean cloth to wipe it away.
• Soak a towel in plain water and rub the surface clean.
• Finally dry the table with the help of a soft dry cloth.

• Use a natural stone or neutral and nonabrasive cleaner to remove dirt and stains.
• Always dry the marble using a chamois or a soft cotton cloth. Never allow the surface of the marble table to air dry.
• To restore the shine and brilliance, use a marble polish. You may refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for it.
• Marble is very permeable in nature. So, ensure that you always blot spills instead of rubbing it.
• Clean spills immediately. The longer the stain sits, the higher the chance for of it getting absorbed thus making it impossible to remove.
• Use coasters under glasses to prevent stains on your marble table.
• Use coasters and table mats with felt pieces beneath so that they don’t form any scratches on the marble table.
• Applying clear wax on your marble table will protect the marble from any minor damages and scratches.
• To remove oil stains, sprinkle some corn starch on the oil spill and allow it to sit for an hour. Reapply if needed and then clean with a mild soap water solution.
