Cleaning Food Color Stain From Carpet
Things Required
  • Club soda
  • Liquid dishwasher detergent
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Vinegar
  • Ammonia
  • Warm water
  • Damp cloth
  • Damp sponge
  • Towel
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Mix two teaspoons of club soda with half cup of warm water. Dip a sponge in the mixture and blot the affected area. Make sure that while doing this, you do not soak the carpet. Blot up the excess mixture in the unaffected area using a clean cloth.
  • If the stain is not removed completely, apply liquid dishwasher detergent. Make sure that the detergent is free of bleaching agents. Mix one teaspoon of the detergent in two cups of warm water. Dip a clean cloth in the mixture and apply strokes on the stained area in a gentle manner. Now, rinse the carpet by applying warm water.
  • Another option is to mix one tablespoon hydrogen peroxide with three tablespoons warm water. Apply the mixture on the affected area and immediately, cover it with a thick towel, in order to block light. Leave the treated area undisturbed for half an hour. After the stain is removed, rinse the carpet with water, without soaking it. Since hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent, this chemical should be used only if your carpet is light colored.
  • You can also make a mixture of ¼ cup vinegar and one cup of warm water. Pour the solution straight onto the food stain. This way, the stain will get saturated and slowly, leave hold of the carpet. Blot the affected area with a cloth or sponge. Rinse it with a clean damp sponge. The smell of vinegar should leave the carpet in a couple of days.
  • By this time, the food coloring stain will be completely removed from your carpet. Leave the treated carpet for a while and then vacuum it. This will reset the carpet pile and leave your carpet as new looking as ever.
  • While removing food color stains from your carpet, make sure that you do not soak the latter. All you need to do is just blot the affected area.
  • Do not scrub the carpet. Always apply gentle strokes.
  • Always work from the outer portion of the stain towards the centre.
  • It is better to avoid bleaching agents. Opt for hydrogen peroxide only if your carpet is very light colored.
