Brad Pitt is a very popular Hollywood actor and the heartthrob of millions of female fans all over the world. Apart from that, he is also a producer and a social activist. His excellent acting skills have won him a Golden Globe Award, apart from another Golden Globe nomination and also an Academy Award nomination. He is as much in news for his films as for his personal relationships. His marriage with Jennifer Aniston, divorce and then, relationship with Angelina Jolie has received much media attention. He has four children with Jolie, one biological and three adopted.

 

Brad Pitt was born as ‘William Bradley Pitt’ on 18^th December 1963, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He is the son of Jane Etta (née Hillhouse), a high school counselor, and William Alvin Pitt, a truck company owner. Pitt is one of the three children of his parents and has two sibling - sister ‘Julie Neal’ and brother ‘Doug’. His family moved to Springfield (Missouri) immediately after his birth and this is where his childhood was spent. He was raised a ‘Baptist’ and attended Kickapoo High School in the initial years. Pitt attended ‘Missouri School of Journalism’ at the University of Missouri - Columbia and is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

 

Brad Pitt started his movie career in 1988, with ‘The Dark Side of the Sun’. The film was shot in Yugoslavia and because of the starting of war, lost much of the footage and was released years later. The next year, he did his first major movie, ‘Cutting Class’, which was duly released. In 1990, he featured in the TV movie ‘Too Young to Die’. However, it was with his first feature role, in ‘Thelma and Louise’ (1991), that he finally managed to attract public attention. The same year, he also played a role in ‘Across the Tracks’ and ‘Johnny Suede’.

 

In 1992, Pitt was seen in ‘A River Runs Through It’ and the next year, in ‘Kalifornia’ and True Romance’. His first critical acclaim came with ‘Twelve Monkey’, released in 1995, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actor’. The proof of his appreciation amongst people came when he was named as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by People magazine. The next year, he won Golden Globe for ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role’ for ‘Twelve Monkey’ and even received the Oscar nod.

 

In 1997, Playgirl published nude photos of Brad Pitt, while vacationing with Gwyneth Paltrow in West Indies. He filed a suit against the magazine and got an order from the court, asking the magazine to recall all of its ‘concerned’ issues. The same year, he did ‘Seven Years in Tibet’. The Tibetan nationalism ‘theme’ of the film miffed Chinese authorities and they banned Pitt and Thewlis from entering the country for life. In 1998, he started dating Jennifer Aniston and also starred in ‘Meet Joe Black’.

 

The year 1999 saw Pitt starring in Fight Club, an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel, and the following year, he was seen as an Irish Gypsy boxer, in the gangster movie ‘Snatch’. The beginning of the next century was on a happy note, with Pitt again being named as ‘Sexiest Man Alive’, by People magazine. His first movie of the new century, ‘Spy Game’, was followed by a comical road movie ‘The Mexican’ (2001). The same year, he finished filming ‘Ocean's Eleven’, a remake of the 1960s version.

 

The year 2004 saw Brad Pitt starring in two major movies, ‘Troy’ and ‘Ocean’s Twelve’. His, another major hit came in 2005, when he did ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ opposite Angelina Jolie. Next year was equally good for him. He received a Golden Globe nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture’, for his role in ‘Babel’. That year, he also debuted as a producer, with ‘Departed’. His latest release was ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’. Though the film was not a hit, it won Pitt major critical acclaim.

 

Brad Pitt has been the favorite of media, especially because of his many romantic relationships. He has dated a number of his co-stars till date, including Robin Givens (Head Of The Class), Jill Schoelen (Cutting Class), Juliette Lewis (Too Young to Die and Kalifornia), Gwyneth Paltrow (Se7en), Sinitta and Thandie Newton. He met Jennifer Aniston in 1998 and married her in 2000, in an enclosed wedding ceremony at Malibu. However the marriage did not last long. The couple announced their separation in 2005 and got divorced the same year.

 

Since the shooting of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’, speculations were rife about a relationship between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Though they denied the same, the speculations were confirmed when a set of paparazzi photos emerged about a month after Jennifer filed for divorce. Two months later, Pitt and Jolie featured in an issue of W magazine (July 2005), posing as a couple. In December 2005, Pitt started the process of legally adopting Jolie's two adopted children. On 27^th May 2006, the couple had a daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt. The next year, they adopted another boy.
