The success of Passat and Jetta has given way to the luxury car manufacturer, Volkswagen, for expanding its base in India. The company is now all set to launch Touareg, its first SUV in India. With a classy looking exterior and a lavishly designed interior, this model is sure to steal the show. Having a 5-star rating from IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) in terms of safety features, the vehicle is soon to become one of the most popular high-end sports utility vehicles. The launch of Volkswagen Touareg is set to give tough competition to other SUVs in India, like Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne.

 

Signifying the Volkswagen brand, Touareg is well identified by its shield-shaped radiator grill, finished in a chrome look. Making the car the best in its class, its headlights chasing and chrome trim further enhance its beauty. Touareg has been included with an electronically sliding/ tilting glass roof, which can be conveniently closed from outside as well, via central locking. Giving way for room in the luggage apartment, the rear-mounted spare wheel underlines the off-road character of the model. Matching the four alloy wheels fitted on the vehicle, the spare wheel is secured on a swiveling carrier. The clear bodylines are emphasized by the mate chrome frame of radiator grill and chrome trim on the radiator grill, side windows, sills and rear bumper. High-gloss roof pillar trim and chrome surrounds for the centre air intake complement the vehicle.

 

Touareg achieves the perfect rendezvous of style and comfort. The outstanding off-road characteristics, such as generous proportions, stylish design and carefully selected materials, create an extraordinary ambience. The deluxe front seats are made in ‘Genuine Napa’ leather. It has been equipped with a customized glove compartment, which serves as a cooling facility for snacks and beverages. The multi-function steering wheel is leather finished, with cruise and multi-function display controls. The car has double sun visors, to protect the front seat passengers from front as well as side brightness. The audio module, with 10 loudspeakers, gives an output of 4 x 20 watts, while luggage compartment and electric door mirrors simply add to the reasons for owning this beauty.

 

Volkswagen Touareg has been equipped with 3.0L diesel engine, offering the maximum power output of 240 PS. It goes from 0 kmph to 100 kmph in just 8.3 seconds. The vehicle can be driven at a maximum speed mark of 204 kmph. It will be initially offered in two-wheel drive configuration, while the customer will later have the option of choosing a four-wheel drive also.

 

The extensive safety features of Touareg include Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Break Pressure Distribution (EBD), six air bags and bi-xenon headlights. It has been designed with the new Anti-locking Brake System (ABS) that helps the driver to steer better, on applying full brakes. Another unique feature is the park distance control that indicates to the driver how much space is left to maneuver at the front and rear.

 

Touareg is a combination of innovative features, harmony of design and impressive dynamics. The vehicle has been launched in six stunning colors to choose from: Shadow Blue Metallic, Campanella White (solid paint), OffRoad Grey Metallic, Reflex Silver Metallic, Galapagos Anthracite Metallic and Black Magic Pearl Effect. It has been priced at Rs. 51,85,000 (ex-showroom).
