Causes Of Shoulder Pain
  • One of the major causes of shoulder pain is bursitis, which is caused when bursa is inflamed. Bursitis generally takes place due to injury, infection and/or rheumatic reasons that causes the humerus and acromion to inflame. Shoulder bursitis is common in people who have very narrow space in between the shoulder bones.
  • Any kind of injury around the shoulder area like dislocation or instability of shoulder joints can trigger shoulder pain. Most often the symptoms of such shoulder injuries are noticeable, especially when moving or lifting the arm. If not treated on time, shoulder injury can lead to deformity too.
  • Another prime reason behind shoulder pain is tear in the rotator cuff. The muscles and tendons around the shoulder are called rotator cuff, which maintains joint stability and assists in the movement of shoulders. Any injury on the tendons can mean tear in the rotator and trigger severe shoulder pain.
  • Tendinitis is another reason behind shoulder pain, which actually happens when the tendons tear or wear out. This disability can either be acute or chronic. Too much use of shoulder can lead to this painful condition. While acute tendinitis is a short-term problem, chronic tendinitis is triggered due to degenerative diseases and at times be a result of ageing too.
  • Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is a painful condition that withholds free movement of shoulder and results to severe pain. It leads to contraction of the capsule that surrounds the shoulder joints.
  • Arthritis is another cause behind painful shoulder. Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are two common causes that lead to progressive depreciation of the cartilage that plaster the shoulder joints.  Rheumatoid arthritis leads to inflammation in the joint lining and causes unbearable pain in the shoulder.
  • Some of the other most common causes of shoulder pain are spine problem, liver disease or heart disease. A person suffering from heart problem can experience pain in their left shoulder.
