Personalized Baby Blankets

It’s really easy to walk right into a store that specializes in baby merchandise and buy a baby blanket for your baby or for the baby of a friend. However, what you don’t get from run-of-the-mill blankets is that personalized touch. You also can never really get a taste of the satisfaction that is a direct result of making something on your own. Contrary to popular belief, making a baby blanket is really not that difficult. It really is more about making up your mind and less about making the baby blanket. A baby really deserves the best; and as far as blankets go the best is not available at fancy and unnecessarily large stores. This is only because nothing can really replace the love, time and efforts that go into the making of a personalized baby blanket. Read on to gain familiarity with step by step instructions that can help you put together a baby blanket.

How To Make A Personalized Baby Blanket

You Will Need
  • A 30 inch x 40 inch piece of Fleece Fabric
  • A Ruler
  • A pair of Scissors
  • A Masking Tape
  • 1 ¼ inch Dot Alphabet Letter Stamps
  • 1 inch Flower Stamp
  • Straight Pin
  • Small Round Paintbrush
  • Fabric Paint
Instructions
  • Begin the process by cutting a 30 inch piece of masking tape. Use a sharp scissors for the cutting the tape.
  • Proceed to use a ruler and a marker to mark out ½ intervals along one edge of the marking place. You will have to exercise your precision here. You will also have to use a marker shade that can clearly be seen on the masking tape.
  • Once you’re done with marking the masking tape, place the masking tape about 2 inches away from the edge of the 30 inches side of the fleece fabric or blanket. Here you will have to take care to ensure that the masking tape stretches straight across the boundary of the fleece fabric because only this will help serve as a guide for making the fringe.
  • Use the marks on the marking sheet as a guide and proceed to cut a fringe across the length of the blanket. Make it a point to cut the fringe in ½ inch intervals.
  • Now that you are done with cutting out the fringe, move the masking tape to the other 30 inch side of the fleece fabric. Proceed to repeat the steps you performed on the first 30 inch side of the fleece fabric.
  • Once you are done with the other side of the fabric mark the center of one fringed side of the fabric with a pin. The mark should be made about 2 inches from the top of the fringe.
  • Continue ‘putting the blanket together’ by applying paint (a color of your choice) to the child’s letter stamp with a brush. With care and caution, press each stamp onto the blanket.
  • You can stamp the child’s middle initial or any other alphabet just above the pin. The first and last initials can be stamped on either side of the pin to personalize the baby blanket. This is just protocol; you can always feel free to stamp the alphabets of your choice. It doesn’t necessarily have to be all about the initials of the child.
  • This step is purely optional. You can either choose to follow it or choose to not. Begin this step by stamping three flowers on each side of the initials or alphabets. You can have one flower in the same colors as the letters and the others that go well with the colors of the letters. Also, put a small dot in the center of each flower. The color of the dot can be in direct contrast to the color of the flowers.
  • Your personalized baby blanket is ready! You can proceed to congratulate yourself for your efforts.
