One way in which you as a parent can convey your sense of protection and affection towards your child is by gifting him/her something unique and handy. A baby blanket is one such item which will keep your baby warm, cosy, comfortable and safe. You can either buy one from the market or crochet one yourself to make it unique. This article will provide you with few useful baby blanket crochet tips which will help you make a beautiful blanket.

Baby Blanket Crochet Tips

Method 1
  • The first step that has to be taken in order to make a baby blanket is to decide upon the crochet pattern to be used and the type of blanket needed. There are many patterns available both on-line and in several design books from which you can chose one. A lace like look or a pattern with a look of stitches stitched together, or a simple pattern with two solid covers will all be good options for your baby’s first blanket.
  • Once you decide on the pattern, colour, type and design of the blanket, bring together all the materials needed to make the blanket. Once the materials are all in place, select the type of yarn you want to use to stitch the blanket from the various options available. Choose the type of yarn based on your requirements and the baby’s comfort.
  • Once the yarn to be stitched with, the design and all the materials are ready, you can start stitching the blanket by getting off with the foundation chain. Create the foundation chain by making a slip knot around the hook and then wrap the yarn around the hook moving in the downward direction towards the body.
  • Push the hook and the yarn downward through the loop of the slip knot. Continue this process until you get to the decided size of the blanket.
Method 2
  • Assemble together 2 skeins, each one of three colours weighing 50/50 cotton/acrylic yarn. You will also need a small size crochet hook and a large eye blunt needle.
  • Once you have all the materials needed at your disposal, start stitching the blanket by arranging 55 single crochet stitches in all the three colour strands.
  • Once you have stitched the first chain, search for the second chain from the hook and stitch a single crochet in the discovered chain. Make a single crotchet chain in each chain which you find throughout the stitching process. At the end you will have 54 single crotchet stitches in a row.
  • Once you have stitched through a row, make a single crotchet link at the end of it. After the link has been formed, turn the stitched material in a way that the part facing upwards faces down.
  • Make sure that you make a single crochet stitch in each of the single crotchet links which you have made. You will have to repeat all the steps in frequent succession till the time you reach the desired height of the blanket. Cut the yarn at the end of the blanket and tie it into a knot.
  • Now it is time for the plastic eye blunt needle to be put in use to weave the ends of the blanket into the material.
