Kangana Ranaut is one of the most promising new actresses in Indian film industry presently. She made her debut with Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Gangster’ and wooed the audience with her debut role itself. Her very first movie won her Filmfare Best Female Debut Award, along with numerous other lesser known awards. Thereafter, Kangana was seen in a string of successes, like ‘Woh Lamhe’ and ‘Life In A...Metro’, all of which won her critical applause too. Her Bollywood journey has just started and looks to be a long-lasting one indeed!
Childhood and Early Life
Kangana Ranaut was born on 23rd March 1987, in a village called Bhambla that falls in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. She was born to Amardeep Ranawt - a businessman, and his wife Asha Ranawt - a school teacher. She is one of the three children of Ranawt’s, the other two being a daughter - Rangoli and a son. Kangana did her schooling in Shimla and graduated in science stream. Right from her childhood years, she had an interest in acting and wanted to be a Bollywood star.
Career
Kangana started her career in Delhi, as a as theatre actor with Asmita theatre group. She learnt acting under the renowned theatre director Arvind Gaur. During that time, she participated in Gaur’s theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and was seen in a number of plays. After sometime, Kangana moved to Mumbai, to try her luck in the ‘City of Dreams’. Soon, lady luck smiled on her. Director Anurag Basu saw her having coffee in a café one day and decided to call Kangana for an audition for his next film, ‘Gangster’.
She gave the screen test for ‘Gangster’, a Mahesh Bhatt film, which later turned out to be her debut movie. The film became a huge hit and Kangana’s performance in the movie was much acclaimed. She ended up bagging the Best Female Debut Award in a number of award functions, including Filmfare. Next, she was seen in ‘Woh Lamhe’ that hit the theaters the same year as ‘Gangster’ (2006), though some months later. It also turned to be a box office success and her performance was especially applauded.
The year 2007 saw Kangana being a part of another Anurag Basu film ‘Life In A...Metro’. Not only did the film garner rave reviews, but she also managed to woo the audience, once again. Following soon after was ‘Shakalaka Boom Boom’, a movie in which she played the role of an aspiring singer. In 2007, it was announced that Kangana would play the female lead in Jeeva's forthcoming Tamil venture, ‘Dhaam Dhoom’. 'Fashion', 'Raaz 2', 'Roshan' and 'Kites' are her other films scheduled for release in 2008.
