The first and foremost thing to do is to find a flat iron, which is suitable for your hair type. As for the rest of the procedure, you will find the tips given below to be useful. Read on to learn how to straighten thick hair.

Straightening Thick Hair
  • Shampoo your hair first. Apply less shampoo, and more conditioner, than usual.
  • Rinse your hair with cold water. Later on, wet your hair with warm water.
  • Wrap your hair in a towel, to soak water.
  • While pat-drying your hair, squeeze it a little bit with the towel. However, make sure that you do not rub it hard.
  • Make use of a blow dryer to dry your hair.
  • Detangle your hair, using a tooth comb, after it has dried completely.
  • Apply a straightening product on your dry hair, distributing it evenly.
  • In the meantime, heat the flat iron in a setting that is suitable for your hair. In case of thick hair, highest temperature setting is desirable.
  • Divide your hair into small sections. Now, take one of the sections of your hair and tie the rest with clips.
  • Clamp the flat iron at the top end of the hair section. Press the iron and pull it downwards. While doing this, make sure that other sections of the hair are tucked away.
  • Repeat the above step with remaining sections of your hair as well.
  • After straightening all the sections of your hair, brush it with a comb.
  • Apply hair spray to give the finishing touch.
Tips
  • Start straightening the hair at the back of your neck and then work towards the crown of your head.
  • Straighten small sections of hair at a time.
  • Do not keep the flat iron in contact with the hair for too long. The heat emitted by it may damage the texture of your hair.
  • Do not use a brush to de-tangle your hair. A wide-toothed comb is always the better option.
  • Do not apply too much straightening cream, as it will make your hair greasy.
  • In case your hair seems to be frizzy even after straightening, apply a hair spray or gel to de-frizz it.
