How To Make A Messy Bun

The classic bun hairstyle has been in vogue since quite a long time. However, with the passing time, young and middle aged women have brought about a slight change to the years-old hairdo, by adding a messy look to it. Hair strands pulled out loosely, along the sides of the bun, make it even more chic and trendy. This hairstyle is best suited for wavy and straight hair, with medium or long length. A messy bun is best for the times when you do not have much time to make a prim and proper hairstyle. To make a messy bun neither do you have to style your hair with a curling tong or straightening iron, nor do you need a long list of styling products. It is simply for the days when you are running late for a meeting or are in a casual mood or may be when you are planning to soak up a lot of sun. This hairstyle is very outdoorsy; it makes you look taller and highlights your make up. It is a sure short way to look instantly glamorous especially if you are donning a low hanging neckline. It looks wonderful on dark hair and you can mix it up with low hanging loops and a dark lipstick. The minimalistic effort that you will put in making a messy bun will get you a magnanimously stunning look for yourself. You can make it all the more fun by using fancy headbands and shiny hairclips.  It’s a very effective and stylish answer to a morose bad hair day. Also, if you are wearing a dazzling dress or a top and you do not want to cover up its details with your long hair then messy bun is your answer. It will give your face enough detailing and will reveal the specificity of your dress. Also, in summers when it is hot and humid and you are sweating, you can just tie a loose messy bun. It serves as a very practical hairdo for extreme weather conditions. If you want to know how to make a messy bun, this article is just for you. Items Needed
  • Brush
  • Anti-frizz Serum/ Mousse/ Gel
  • Elastic Bands
  • Bobby Pins
  • Fine-toothed Comb (optional)
  • Hairspray

Instructions
  • Detangle your hair first. For the purpose, you should comb your hair well, using a brush. Or better still, you can use a wide toothed comb. This will detangle your hair with minimum impact on the hair. Wide toothed comb helps in the prevention of split-ends and breakages.
  • It won't be possible to tuck the hair to form a messy bun, if it is frizzy. Therefore, you will need to apply an anti-frizz serum, mousse or gel before tying the hair. Straightening gel is always the best bet.  If your hair is wet then towel dry them and take a dollop of straightening gel on your palms and fingers and run your fingers all over your hair. Equally distribute it throughout your hair, running your fingers from roots to ends.
  • Comb your hair again. Now, pull them backwards to form a ponytail. If you want to sport a low bun, form the ponytail at the nape of your neck. For a higher bun, pull your hair back and tie it to form a high ponytail. If your hair was wet then you might want to blow dry it before putting it into a high ponytail. Use medium heat on the blow dryer and dry 4-inch sections of hair.
  • After tying the ponytail with an elastic band, smoothen out the bumps, using a bristled brush.
  • Coil your hair around the base of the ponytail. Now, make use of another elastic band, to secure the ponytail at the back of your head. By doing this, your hair will look like a small donut in the middle of your head.
  • Secure the strands in the sides into the bun, using bobby pins. Since you are making a messy bun, you should not tuck the hair strands tightly, rather fit them in loosely.
  • To give the final touch to your bun, pull out a few strands of hair from it, using your fingers. You may also make use of a fine toothed comb for the purpose.
  • You can also wear a hair-band at the length of 2 inches from your hairline. Try sliding on your head very lightly so that you do not disturb the natural messy look of your hair. It is in fashion to wear very thin black colored hair-bands but if it is special occasion then you might as well go for a broad and glittery one. You can also wear two head-bands at once. All you got to do it wear one at 2 inches length from your hairline and the other one at 3 inches.
  • To retain the shape of the messy bun for a long time, apply a hairspray on the hair, lightly. Make sure that you spray the hairspray from 8 inches distance. You really do not have to if you are donning it only for a few hours and the climate is not humid. But if you are going to wear to it for more than just a few hours then a styling spray is quite advisable.
