Ceiling Fan Installation Tips

Items Needed
  • Mounting brackets
  • Screwdrivers
  • Ceiling Fan
  • Electrical Tape
Instructions
  • First of all, you need to shut off the power, for the fixture that you intend to work on, from the main electrical box
  • After removing the mounting bolts, take down the existing light fixture, if any.
  • Disconnect the electrical wires, which will either be two or three in number.
  • Any nuts that you see being used to hold the wires should be taken out and kept together, to be used later on.
  • Attach the mounting bracket to the electrical box, while making sure that all the screws are good and tight. Loose screws can cause the fan to wobble and, in the worst circumstances, fall down.
  • A "working hook" is provided on the mounting bracket. Use this hook to hang the fan on. In the meantime, you will hook up the wiring.
  • Following the standard color coding system, white to white, black or blue to black or blue, green or bare copper, attach the wires.
  • Remember that the ground wire for the house circuit is usually attached to the junction box directly.
  • Loosen the screw and wrap the ground wire around it. Now, tighten the screw, in order to hold the ground wires.
  • Cover the power connections (black and white wires) with a securely screwed-on wire nut.
  • All the extra wiring should be placed out of the way, by pushing it up into the electrical box.
  • Making use of screws, attach the fan motor to the mounting bracket.
  • The main part of the fan has now been fixed. Now, turn on the power and check whether the connections have been made properly or not.
  • Turn off the power once again and put on the motor cover.
  • Next, you will have to attach each fan blade to its mounting bracket. After this, mount the blade/bracket assemblies to the fan motor.
  • Turn on the power and make sure that the fan is working fine. In case you notice any wobbling, push the unit gently until it hangs level.
