Due to its healing properties and medicinal use, aloe vera has been in use for ages. It is because of its therapeutic property that aloe vera plant is also known as ‘the Miracle plant’ or ‘the Natural healer’. The jelly extracted from aloe vera parts can be used to make aloe vera juice. Aloe vera juice is one of the most important extract of aloe vera plants and is the most used aloe vera products. Aloe vera juice is rich in vitamins, amino acids and more than twenty minerals, which are essential for body. This makes aloe vera juice highly beneficial. Aloe vera juice is well known for improving the digestive system. Aloe vera juice can also be used for cosmetics and healing the skin. When consumed, rich in nutrients, it acts as cleansing and rejuvenating tonic. However, every good thing has some certain side effects and aloe vera juice is no exception.   • Intake of aloe vera juice can serve as a good laxative. One of the most common side effects of aloe vera juice is stomach pain or abdominal cramps. Since, aloe vera juice contains laxative compounds, diarrhea, and electrolyte imbalances are also common side effects. Therefore, aloe vera juice is not recommended for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, hemorrhoids, or ulcers.
  • Some people also complain that consumption of aloe vera juice makes the urine turn in red-like color.
  • Consumption of aleo vera juice can result in the lowering of potassium levels. That’s the reason it’s not recommended for children and elderly people. Low potassium level causes irregular heartbeats, weakness, and soft muscles. This effect of aloe vera is generally seen in people suffering from diabetes, heart, or kidney diseases. The people suffering from these problems should avoid intake of aloe vera.  
  • Another side effect of aloe vera is lowering blood sugar level. Those, who are undergoing treatment of hypoglycemia or diabetes, should take doctor’s advice before consuming aloe vera juice.

  • Consuming aloe vera for more than a year can result in higher risk of colorectal cancer.
  • Intake of aloe vera or aloe vera juice is not advisable during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It can cause cramps, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and utrerine contractions, which can lead to abortion in pregnant women. Breastfeeding mothers should also avoid consumption of aloe vera juice as it can cause complications for the newborn. During pregnancy, it’s advisable to avoid aloe vera in any form. Although it’s said that tropical use of aloe vera gel doesn’t cause any complication but it’s always better to consult a doctor before using it.
  • Some people are allergic to wheat, some to eggs, and some to aloe vera. Allergic reaction is generally visible as skin rashes. Often, allergic reaction occurs when you first start drinking aloe vera as it detoxifies the body. The skin rashes can last for days. If you are much concerned about skin rashes then you can slow down the natural body process by consuming less amount of aloe vera juice every day.
