‘U Me Aur Hum’ has hit the theatres all across India and the verdict is - the movie is definitely worth spending 150 bucks in the multiplex. The directorial debut of Ajay Devgan has definitely made an impact, that too a good one. He has picked a very unique issue - that of Alzheimer’s, and presented it beautifully in front of the audience. Though the movie does not start at a very good pace, it picks up momentum as the story moves ahead. ‘U Me Aur Hum’ is all about love, commitment and being together in spite of problems.
The first half of the movie mainly provides the lighter, funny and sometimes even ‘silly’ moments. The movie opens in a cruise, where an old ‘Ajay’ is trying to woo a graying ‘Piya’, once again, after winning her 25 years before. The reason, she has forgotten everything about her life - the result of falling victim to Alzheimer’s. Through the movie, Ajay Devgan has shown that the journey of marriage is never smooth. Still, if you are willing to hang on tight, you will always end up together, though a little shaken.
If the first half of the movie is funny, the second half is totally intense. In fact, it is the latter half only when the brilliance of Ajay Devgan ‘as a director’ comes to the fore. He has shown how a single day can alter the life of a couple and how you have to cope up with things, sticking by your partner at all times. The cinematography, especially in the first half, is simply wonderful. Though the second half is very touching, it could have done with some more editing skills and a shorter time span.
As far as performances go, Ajay Devgan and Kajol are par-excellence. If Kajol is ravishing in the first half, she dons the role of an ‘Alzheimer-affected’ with effortless ease too. Ajay is too good, first as the loving pursuer, then, as a doting husband and finally, as a forever-at-her-side companion. Sumeet Raghavan is simply too good, while Divya Dutta totally gets into her character. Karan Khanna and Isha Sharwani have done a fine job. All in all, U Me And Hum is a movie that will make you believe in love once again.
