Face Shaving Tips
  • Never shave when your skin is dry, as it would lead to razor cuts and burns across your chin and cheeks. Therefore, it is important for you to first clean your face properly using warm water. Washing your face with warm water will soften the beard and will help open the pores, making it easier for you to shave.
  • Make sure that you use a good shaving cream. A good shaving cream does not give a lot of foam; rather it gives out a rich, creamy lather that is full of moisturizers and lubricants. It is advisable to apply the shaving cream and leave it on your face for 1-2 minutes before you shave. This will allow the cream to lubricate your skin, making it easier for the razor to glide smoothly.
  • You can also go for a lotion containing aloe vera gel. This would soften your facial hair before shaving. Application of the lotion will prevent the hair from drying, making it easier for the razor to work through. Avoid using shaving products with menthol since such products make the skin go dry and also cause irritation.
  • While shaving, use a sharp razor and not an old, blunt one. Blunt razors will spoil shaving and will cause cuts and bruises all over your skin. Such razors rub and tear the skin and create rashes on the skin. It may also give uneven and untidy shaving experience. Also, while selecting the razor, opt for one that has a heavy handle to get a good control while shaving.
  • Make sure that you follow a proper shaving procedure, since a wrong shave might cause your skin a lot of irritation and rashes. Do not shave against the direction of the hair growth, since it might draw blood and cause rashes. Shaving against the direction of hair growth can also lead to ingrown hair, causing unsightly razor bumps. Therefore, it is advisable to shave in the right direction using steady, firm and gentle strokes. Rinse the razor blade with hot water before starting to shave and after every three to four strokes in order to maintain the moisture.
  • Once you are done with shaving, splash over cold water. Cold water will help close the pores, preventing any dirt particles from entering. After washing your face with cold water use a skin toner to tighten the skin by closing pores. Apply wet alum piece wherever you have received cuts, to prevent them from bleeding. Make sure that you do not use alcohol-based after-shave lotions, since they will make your skin dry.
