How to Remove a Mole
  • You can easily get rid of a mole by going for a surgical procedure, which hardly takes 20-30 minutes. The procedure is totally painless and can be carried out at the clinic itself. The doctor will numb the area and shaves off or cut out the mole with a scalpel. He will then stitch the wound and prescribe some painkillers.
  • The latest procedure used in case of mole removal is Electro surgery. In this case also, the doctor will numb the area and remove the mole with the help of a scalpel. However, in addition to this, he will also destroy the deeper tissue below the removed mole, with the help of an electric needle. This is to make sure that the mole doesn’t grow back. Thereafter, he will stitch the wound and send you home.
  • With the advancement in technology, people are also going in for the removal of mole through Laser surgery. For the purpose, you have to go to a dermatologist, who will again numb the area around your mole. Thereafter, he will use the laser to destroy the nevus tissue, causing minimal damage to the adjoining skin. In this case, it will take atleast 1-2 weeks for the skin to heal properly.
  • If you do not want to go in for surgery for getting rid of a mole, try the Liquid nitrogen treatment (Cryotherapy), also known as the ‘Freezing’ treatment. In this case, liquid nitrogen is directly applied to a mole. This, in turn, destroys the cell tissue and gets rid of the mole. However, this method is quite painful and should not be used on the same area more than once a week.
  • Last, but not the least, you can go to the doctor and ask him to give you prescription or OTC products for getting rid of the mole. Such products contain tissue-destroying acids that aid mole removal. In this case, it will take a long time to remove the mole fully. At the same time, the surrounding skin might get damaged in the process.
To Keep in Mind
  • All the methods of mole removal, right from surgery to prescription products, lead to scarring. However, the degree of scarring will depend upon the method used. So, it is better to get complete information about all the procedures from your doctor.
