How To Grow An Organic Vegetable Garden

Growing an organic vegetable garden is not something that you can learn overnight. It will take you a few attempts to get it right, and not all of them will be successful. However, keep in mind that an organic vegetable garden can have immense health benefits. When you grow your own foodstuff, you get closer in touch with nature and you will also be able to cut down on your expenses related to food. This will especially be helpful in these days of economic recession, when everyone wants to spend less and save more. Vegetables are healthier for you, so you will also probably cut down on medical bills. Growing organic vegetables means that the use of artificial chemical pesticides and fertilizers will be severely restricted. Apart from this, genetically modified crops and ingredients will not be used. So if you’re really looking out to having a satisfying experience with fresh air, sunshine, knowledge, mental therapy, and good wholesome food, here’s how you can go about it.

Organic Vegetable Gardening Tips
  • Choose the right location for your organic vegetable garden. If you choose a spot too near to your neighbor’s yard, it just might happen that the chemicals that are used in his garden may seep into yours. Stay away from any chances of harmful chemicals or sprays getting on to your plants. Public areas such as roads may also get sprayed with pesticides. Therefore, choose a spot that is away from dusty roads.
  • Use only organic materials and supplies in your garden. The soil will need to be rich in nutrients, organic fertilizers, and organic pesticides.
  • You can either start your vegetable garden from seed, or, if you wish, purchase the plants from the local nursery and use them in your garden.
  • Lay down the soil before planting the garden. Once you lay down the soil, you can plant in either the organic vegetable seeds or the plants and water the soil regularly. Watering promotes germination as well as growth and should never be neglected.
  • Purchase an organic fertilizer and use this as per instructions. If animal manures are available, these should be the first choice since they will provide your plants with all the nutrients they need. Just keep in mind that the manure should have been aged for at least 30 days and, if possible, should be composted.
  • Water your organic garden frequently and harvest the produce when ready. You will also need to watch out for pests and use organic pesticides the moment you see them appearing. Remember that pests can take over your entire vegetable garden so you will need to monitor this carefully and attack the pests when they show up.
