How To Get Rid Of Hard Water Stains

Hard water is the water containing high content of minerals like calcium and magnesium. This water basically consists of calcium and magnesium metal cat-ions and sometimes, the dissolved substances like sulfates and bicarbonates as well. Hard water does not lather with soap or detergent and thus one has a tough time while washing anything in hard water. If the water has a high concentration of calcium and magnesium minerals, it also creates white lime scales on the surfaces with which it comes into contact. Hard water causes stains almost on all the surfaces it touches, like glass, utensils, toilet, showerhead, basin and others. Take some white vinegar and pour it in the coffee pot. Move the pot in such a manner that the vinegar reaches every part of the coffee pot. Now, pour the vinegar into another container. Rinse the pot with normal water at least twice, so that it is cleaned superficially. Now, scrub the pot properly, making use of hot water and soap and you will find that there are no more hard water stains in it.

 

The toilet bowl is yet another place where you are bound to find hard water stains. To get rid of them, Pour ½ gallon of white vinegar into the bowl and let it sit there for a minimum of one hour, without being disturbed. Now, flush the toilet and clean it using a toilet wash. The stains will no more be there.

 

Run two small cups of vinegar and lemon juice through the basin. Scrub it properly and then rinse it with hot water. Both hard water deposits and other stains will be removed from the basin. For tougher stains, use the paste of baking soda and white vinegar to scrub them out.

 

Never use steel wood, scrubbing pads or scorching powder for wiping out hard water stains from glass products. This will only scratch the glass, but will have no positive effect in cleaning the stains. Instead, you can use white vinegar spray to clean glass products and see the stains vanish magically.

If your showerhead is removable, take it out. Take a pot with equal contents of water and vinegar and boil the mixture. Submerge the showerhead in the mixture and simmer it for half an hour. Let the showerhead soak in the mixture overnight. Next day, rinse it with cold running water and fit it back.

 

In case of a fixed showerhead, fill a plastic bag with equal amount of vinegar and water. Fix this bag onto the showerhead in such a manner that the latter is submerged in the mixture. Use rubber bands, hardware clamps and duct tape to secure the bag over the showerhead. Let it soak overnight and rinse it with cold water the next morning.
