How To Get Rid Of Creaky Doors

Are you tired of the squeaky noise that your door makes, every time you open or close it? Majority of the doors start making an irritating and shrill noise after a period of time. This is because they get devoid of lubricants and need oiling. When the doors are new, the hinges are well lubricated and oiled, but with the passage of time and regular usage, they lose the greasiness. Not only creaky doors make creepy noise, but these are not good according to the Feng Shui also as these bring negative energy to the home. As soon as your door starts making creaky noise, know for sure that it is time to get the hinges lubricated. How To Fix A Creaking Door

Using Petroleum-Based Lubricant

The first step would be to spray a petroleum-based lubricant on the hinges of the door. Make sure that the door is open while spraying. Now, open and close the door a couple of times.
If the door is still making the squeaky sound, apply some lubricant on the hinges while the door is closed, or at least partially closed.
Open and close the doors a few times. By now, the squeaky sound must be gone.

Using Little Elbow Grease

In this method, you need to remove pins from the hinges, one at a time. Using a cloth, clean the pin and hinge. Now, lubricate the inside of the hinge and replace it.
Repeat the process for all the other hinges of the door.
Open and close the door a couple to times, to get rid of the squeaky noise.

Using Baby Powder

Sometimes the sound is more squeaky than a creak then may be the problem is because of the door especially if the door is wooden.
The first thing, which you need to do, is to see if the wooden surface comes in contact with other wood surface. Move the door and notice the squeak sound, and see if the sound comes when your door meets the wooden surface.
If it is the case, you could use baby powder to get rid of the sound. Apply a slight film of baby powder in the affected crevices. The sound will subside.

Replace The Hinge

Sometimes the reason may be the hinges of the door. It happens that with passing time the hinges starts to get rusty and then make noise. It is also possible that the door is inappropriately positioned and that is why, it makes noise.
To fix the sound you may need to replace the hinges or you may take them out, oil them properly, remove their rust and then position them properly.

Using Candle Stubs/ Paraffin Wax/ Soap

One of the easiest available things, candle stubs too can fix your door and return your peace of mind. All you need to do is to rub the candle stubs on the hinges and move the door forth and back. Moving the door would distribute the lubricant and the sound will subside. Similarly, you could use paraffin wax too for the same purpose. What more, even a bathing soap bar also serves well for the purpose.
