Most of the people fail to differentiate between hornets, bees and wasps and confuse them with one another. However, hornets are much dangerous that the two other two. This is because, unlike bees and wasps, hornets can not only sting multiple times, without dying, but can also bite. Apart from that, they can easily alert the entire nest of potential danger, instigating thousands of aggressive hornets against you. Though hornets manage to stay out of human's way majority of the times, they can become a major problem if they end up making a nest in or around your home. How To Get Rid Of Hornet’s Nest

First of all, you need to confirm that there is a hornet's nest in or around your house. It will be grayish in color and look as if it is made of paper. Usually, you would find a hornet's nest under eaves, in attics or any space protected from the weather.
Late autumn or winter is the best time to get rid of hornets. This is because by this time, almost all the hornets have died. Even if there are any left alive, they will not return to their nesting site the next season.
If you need to remove the nest almost immediately, then find a spray labeled as a quick acting hornet killer. You will get one from any of the home repair and improvement warehouse stores. Do make sure that the insecticide is especially meant for the hornets.
Night is the best time to spray the insecticide on the hornet's nest, as by this time, all the hornets are usually inside the nest only. You don't want to be attacked by stray ones, right!
Wear protective gear. Long sleeves tucked into gloves, long pants tucked into socks and a wide brimmed hat with a nylon stocking over it, tucked into the neckline of your shirt, will be good.
You might want to wear a respirator as well. It will help protect you from the fumes of the insecticide. If that is not possible, at least retreat quickly after the initial assault.
Be careful while approaching the nest. With a wide sweeping motion of the spray, kill the guard hornets first.
Now, you need to move towards the entrance hole, which will most probably be located at the bottom of the nest. Make sure to keep your distance and spray well.
After you have sprayed the nest with the insecticide, move away from the nest and leave it alone for a few days. In the meantime, the returning hornets will die, while the insecticide fumes will also clear.
After a couple of days, you can remove the nest completely. Wear safety equipment and pull it down. Put it in a large plastic bag that can be tied off and throw it away.
You have succeeded in getting rid of hornet's nest. Still, it is advisable to inspect the area regularly, even afterward, to make sure that a repeat does not happen.
