Tips to Get Rid Of Carpenter Ants
  • Locate for carpenter ants first. The most preferred place they must be nesting in comprises of moist wood, moist sinks, bathtubs, poorly sealed windows or leaking roof.
  • Once you find the hidden nests, destroy them immediately. Drill a number of 1/8 inch holes into the wall. Put boric acid into the holes. Drill and treat at least three feet on either side of the suspected nest.
  • Go for a cleanliness drive. Clean your floors thoroughly, fix leaky faucets that fuel rotting wood and remove any clutter that creates shelter for the ants.
  • Get a pesticide that will keep the carpenter ants at bay. Though it is pretty safe to use, make sure to keep it out of reach of kids and pets.
  • Call a professional exterminator to mix the pesticide and some foam, to put the mixture in your walls, so as to eliminate ants.
  • If you can locate the nest of carpenter ants, spray insecticide on the nest directly. This will kill the colony of carpenter ants.
  • Use advanced carpenter ant bait, which is proved highly effective in destroying the nest. The effect is long lasting and you would not find the carpenter ant returning for a long time.
  • You can make bait for the ants by making a combination of 1% boric acid and 10% sugar water. The ants will eat the bait and share it among other ants through regurgitation. As a result of this, all the ants will get killed and eventually the entire colony will perish. Do not add insecticide to the bait, as it will kill the ants even before sharing the food.
  • Another solution is to find the colony and to destroy it is by using a residue, crack or crevice aerosol. Either spray it directly into the nest or use in the form of dust, with a duster.
