This Friday does not really seem to provide much respite from the summer heat, as the new release Hindi film Mr. Black and Mr. White does not offer much, to pull people to the theaters. This comes as a bad news for Deepak Shivadasani, the director of the film, who did manage to prove that his intentions in making the film were quite earnest. The film is loaded with the age old movie masala but miserably fails to tickle the funny bones and in binding the audience.

The film features Sunil Shetty in the shades of Gopi, from the movie Gopi Kishan, aimed at recreating the magic of the movie of yester years. Though the jokes and pranks in the movie are childish, they do manage to strain your laughing bones in some scenes. The film starts with a bang and marks the director’s eye for style and flare. However, the story consistently decelerates in the second half and transforms more into a tragedy, losing its track.

The film results in a complete muddled up state, indicating towards a vague screenplay. To top it all, the music of the film is equally ineffective, leaving no scope for the audience to enjoy. Unexpectedly, the cinematography by Thomas Xavier’s also lacks that patina. The actors also do not display much of their skills, as Suniel Shetty repeats his usual self, without any variation. The same holds true for Arshad Warsi, who is the sole entertainer in bits and pieces.

Amongst ladies, Anishka Khosla is looking average, while the presence of an able actress like Sandhya Mridul in such a movie, is a complete misfit. Rashmi Nigam catches eyeballs with her looks and Sharat Saxena is the only actor worth watching and deserves applause. Ashish Vidyarthi is annoyingly loud while Shehzad Khan is amusing. In all, Mr. Black Mr. White does not manage to cash on the early formula of masala movies and remains colorless, just like its name.

Mr. White Mr. Black Pre-release review
The first week of May 2008 will see the release of a comedy film, Mr. White Mr. Black. As the name suggests, the film is about two completely opposite personalities - a village idiot and a city-bred trickster. It has been directed as well as written by Deepak Shivdasani, while Bipin Shah is its producer. Mr. White Mr. Black will be released under banner of White House Productions Limited and Eros Entertainment. Its star cast includes Sunil Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Rashmi Nigam, Anishka Khosla, Tania Zaetta, Sandhya Mridul and Mahima Mehta.

Gopi (Sunil Shetty) is a very simple and innocent fellow, who is completely in dark about the wayward style of city life. He comes to Goa, from Hoshiyarpur, with the aim of finding his childhood friend, Kishen. After tracing him down, Gopi has to hand him a very small piece of land, as per his father’s last wishes. Kishen (Arshad warsi) is a trickster who makes a fool of out people, with the help of his accomplice, Babu (Atul Kale). However, the conman has a good heart & a noble cause; he has to make money to educate his sister Divya (Mahima Mehta).

Divya is studying in London and has no idea that her brother tricks people, in order to finance her studies. Kishen also has a girlfriend Anuradha (Rashmi Nigam). He has kept her in the dark too and as per her, it is Kishen’s twin brother Hari, who defrauds people. Kishen tries to avoid Gopi, since he does not want to go back to Hoshiyarpur, leaving his flourishing con business, just to take possession of a teeny-weeny piece of land. As Gopi chases Kishen, he received help from Tanya (Anishka Khosla), daughter of the owner of KG Resorts.

Suddenly, the story takes a turn. We come to know that diamonds, worth crores of rupees, have been stolen by three hot chicks. The best part is that all the three babes are now holed up at KG Resorts. As soon as Kishen, Babu and everybody else learns about this, they make a mad rush for K.G Resorts. In all this, Gopi also ends up playing a major part. Who will lay his hands on diamonds? Will Gopi be able to take Kishen to Hoshiyarpur? If you want to find the answers to the questions, just wait for the release of the film.
