Microbiotic diet promotes overall health, by creating a balance in the body. Though not a weight-lose plan, the diet can be adopted by people trying to shed the extra pounds, because it is rich in whole grains, soy products, vegetables, fruits and includes very less or no fat. Although it is perfectly suited for vegetarians, non-vegetarians can also follow this dietary plan, because it contains small amount of fish and seafood as well.   • Soy products form an essential part of the microbiotic diet. The phytoestrogens present in soy products have been found to have positive effects on cholesterol levels, menopause and estrogen-related cancers, like breast cancer.
  • Another vital inclusion in the microbiotic diet comprises of whole grains. In this diet, 50-60% of each meal consists of whole grains. You can opt for brown rice, rye, corn, buckwheat, barley and millet. The diet plan also allows occasional servings of noodles, pasta, bread and rolled oats.
  • Vegetables are inevitable, when it comes to microbiotic diet. You should have boiled, steamed, baked vegetables. The recommended daily dose of vegetables is 25-30% of each meal. At least 1/3rd of the vegetables should be consumed in their raw state.
  • Apart from vegetables, the diet includes fresh fruits, such as pears, peaches, apricots, grapes, berries and melons. It is better to stay away from tropical fruits, such as pineapples and mangoes. 
  • Microbiotic diet allows you to have 1 to 2 bowls of soup everyday. Fermented soybeans should be included in the soup.
  • Bean products, such as tofu, should make up 10% of the daily food intake. The products should be cooked well, without using much oil.
  • The cooking oil, recommended for the preparation of food, is dark sesame oil. You may also opt for light sesame oil, corn oil or mustard seed oil.
  • If you want to improve the taste of your food, you may use seasonings, such as grated ginger root, sea salt, brown rice vinegar, roasted sesame seeds, sliced scallions or fermented pickles.  
  • Small servings of seafood, each week, are allowed in the microbiotic diet. While consuming the seafood, make sure to include moderate amount of ginger and horseradish herb in your food as well, so that the process of detoxification is triggered.
  • Little portions of desserts, especially those made from apple and nuts, are allowed in the diet plan.
  • Consumption of sugar, honey, molasses, chocolate, meat, eggs and poultry is not recommended, if you follow the microbiotic diet.
