The best way to stop clutter from building up is to clean them as you go. Put things away as soon as you're done using them. Here are some ideas and tips to help you avoiding the clutter and make a clean and tidy room.
  • A day for mass cleaning: Regular cleaning is essential for avoiding clutter. But, if you find it difficult in terms of your time and energy, you can fix a day in the week, specifically for cleaning.
  • Don’t skip any a spot: Start cleaning at the entrance to the room. Then, work your way around the room clockwise. Do not skip any point of spot.
  • Family Support: Ask everyone in the family to spend at least 15 minutes a day, in putting the used stuffs back to the place, exactly from where they had taken.
  • No to regular laundry: Don’t wash your clothes everyday. Keep your laundry duties for only one day a week. It saves time and handy in completing the other pending activities.
  • Put like items together: Keep the like-items together such as ‘shirts with shirts’, ‘ties with ties’. Do not put ‘skirts with pants’ and so on.
  • Separate off-season clothes: The clothes like woolen sweater and jackets are not essential during summer. Therefore, it is recommended to keep those stuffs separately, out of the cabinet of regular clothes. The same is applicable on the clothes of ‘outdoor wear’.
  • Separate empty hangers: Do not keep empty hangers at the rod, along with the used one. Keep them aside. It saves a lot of time in organizing and also handy while searching for one.
  • Assign separate Boxes for the like-items. Take three or four boxes and write the kinds of articles you’re going to put into it. Say, Toys, Books and Chargers etc. Place the similar items in that particular box.
  • Cabinet, if not carton: You can also call the carpenter and ask him to create wooden cabinets for keeping the materials. Though the purpose is same as box, cabinets last longer.
  • Little “storage-area” inside garage: Clean the area in your garage, where you want to place those stuffs. Get three medium sized plastic drums of different colors and place your items into the drums. It utilizes the empty space and also gives you a bit extra space in the living room.
  • Throw broken toys out: Do not keep the cosmetics, toys and other items once they are used, broken, or old. Throw them out of the house. They occupy much space.
  • Stack the Newspaper: Place the newspapers and magazines properly and sequentially. Place both in separate cartons. It not only helps you to get rid of the clutter but also handy in finding the paper of a specific date and day.
  • Organize your books: Keep your books in the regular stack. Don’t let them lying in all directions.
