Cleaning Your Porcelain

Kitchenware
The main culprits behind the stain on your porcelain kitchenware are coffee, tea, fruit juices, rust, and hard water scum. These stains don’t go easily and need special care for removal. If you are a coffee lover, dampen a cloth with water, dab some baking soda over it, and use it to scrub the stain the moment the coffee is spilt on the porcelain. Baking soda doesn’t allow the stain to assemble and is helpful in getting rid of old coffee stains as well.

Even if you take juices and tea, your porcelain is not free from stains. However, you can easily remove such stains with a mixture of 1 tbsp trisodium-phosphate and 1 quart water. After you have scrubbed the stain with this mixture, rinse it with 3 tbsp laundry bleach, in 1 quart of warm water. To get rid of hard water scum, take equal amounts of vinegar and warm water and scrub your porcelain with it, using a scrubber. Clean your pots and pans on a regular interval and see the magic through your eyes.

Sink
For your porcelain sink, always use non-scratchy sponges, as they help whiten the surface. Using abrasive sponges will leave scratches on the surface, attracting dirt and stains in the long-run. If you have your sink newly installed, use lemon peels to wash it on a weekly basis. Cut a lemon in half, rub it around the sink - without leaving any spots and let it rest for fifteen minutes. Wash it off to find your sink stain free.

You can even mix alum with the lemon juice, to clean the tough stains. For very stubborn stains, pour a few drops of bleach directly from the bottle and let it set for about twenty minutes. Then, wash off. You can also use vinegar on a regular basis, to keep your sink shiny and stain-free. Pour the vinegar inside the sink, especially on the stained area. Scrub the area with a non-scratchy sponge and wash off.

Bathtub
Bathtub is the place where you get rid of all your dirt. However, that doesn’t mean that your bathtubs would be necessarily dirty. You can clean your bathtub regularly with white vinegar and water, to get rid of hard water scum. You can even use a mixture of 1/2 cup vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, ¼ tsp baking soda and 1 gallon hot water. Apply it on the stain, scrub if necessary, and then wash off with water. Since this solution is very strong, cover up your mouth while using it and work in a well-ventilated area only.

To clean the dirt and scum in your bathtub, you can also mix one part of mineral oil with four parts of water, spray it on the tub, and wipe off with a sponge. You can even use lemon oil to remove the water spots. Another option would be to rub a solution of salt and turpentine on your bathtub and then rinse it will. It will help in removing the discoloration of a yellowed bathtub. Last, but not the least, clean your porcelain tub with nonabrasive powder or liquid cleanser.
