Homemade Apple Cider

Apples can be consumed in a variety of ways. You can bite into fresh ones, make jams and jellies out of them, have frozen apple pies or canned apple sauce as well. Apart from these, there is another wonderful use of this versatile fruit. Apple cider is a delicious beverage made out of apples which can be drunk both hot and cold. It is also the most inexpensive way to chase away your winter blues. Although apple cider is available in any grocery store, the taste of fresh homemade apple cider is incomparable. Besides, at home, you can try out own variations by adding different seasonings to your apple cider. This article contains few homemade apple cider recipes which you can go through and try out easily at home.
How To Make Apple Cider At Home
Recipe 1
  • 4 quarters Apple Cider
  • 1 Apple
  • 1 tsp Ground Allspice
  • 2 tsp Whole Cloves
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg (freshly ground)
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Orange (thinly sliced)
  • Cinnamon Sticks (for garnishing)
  • First of all, carefully stick the whole cloves into the apple.
  • Now mix the grounded allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon well and add it to the clove studded apple and apple cider in a pan. 
  • The pan should be placed on low heat. Allow the mixture to simmer for some time. This would let the spices to get imbibed into the apple cider.
  • Now, take the pan off the heat and toss the apple pieces away.
  • The spiced cider can either be strained or spooned into mugs now.
  • With a comfortable serves of 8 mugs, you can garnish it with a cinnamon stick and a thin slice of orange. 
Recipe 2
  • 1 Orange
  • ½ cup Applejack
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • ¼ cup Dark Rum
  • ¼ cup firmly-packed Brown Sugar
  • 6 cups Apple Cider
  • 3 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 10 whole Cloves
  • 10 whole Allspice
  • Cinnamon Sticks (optional)
  • First of all, using either a knife or vegetable peeler, remove the strips of orange peel.
  • Now heat the saucepan and place 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter in it.
  • When the butter begins to melt, add the orange peel, sugar, allspice, cloves and 3 cinnamon sticks.
  • Mix all these ingredients well and place them over medium heat for a minute or two. Now add the apple cider to the mixture and allow it to steam. 
  • Once it begins to steam, lower the heat and simmer for the next 15 minutes. Now, add the dark rum to it and strain the cider.
  • Pour it into mugs and garnish each mug with an additional cinnamon stick. You could garnish each mug with a cinnamon stick.
Recipe 3
  • ½ cup Water
  • ¼ cup Heavy Cream
  • 3 cups Apple Cider
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
For Caramel Whipped Cream
  • 1 tbsp Brown Sugar
  • ½ cup Heavy Cream
  • First of all, pour the heavy cream into a saucepan and mix the brown sugar into it.
  • Now place the pan over medium heat and allow the mixture to boil.
  • When the mixture just begins to boil, add the apple cider and increase the heat to medium high.
  • Now stir the mixture well and within few minutes, the apple cider would begin to steam.
  • Prepare the caramel whipped cream by pouring the heavy cream into a small chilled bowl and add the brown sugar to it. Continue whipping the cream until it forms soft peaks.
  • Now, pour the cider into mugs and garnish it with two tablespoons of the caramel whipped cream.
