Causes And Treatment For Damaged Hair Follicles

Causes
  • The sun does not harm your skin alone, prolonged exposure to this ball of fire up in the skies can also result in the damage of your hair follicles.
  • Lack of a balanced diet, more often than not, can be directly associated with the damage of hair follicles. Hair, just like muscles, needs nourishment to grow. A person whose diet is devoid of the right amount of minerals, proteins or vitamins is more likely to suffer from damaged hair follicles than a person whose diet is rich in minerals, vitamins and proteins.
  • Damaged hair follicles are not just caused due to a poor diet; not drinking sufficient water can also result in the damage of hair follicles.
  • Hair that’s been colored, straightened or excessively treated at a salon for cosmetic purposes is highly likely to have follicles that are more than familiar with damage. This fact holds true when the respective person’s hair is subject to treatment at a salon that is not really known for its professionalism.
  • The follicles of your hair can easily get damaged if you don’t treat it to a regular ‘serving’ of oil, a gentle shampoo and a good conditioner.
  • People who due to health reasons are forced to take certain medications can also suffer from damaged hair follicles. This can be nothing but the side effects of the medicines taken.
Treatment
  • One of the first things to do to correct the damage in the follicles of your hair is to treat it with oil. Oil here stands to signify almond oil, coconut oil and olive oil. For best results, apply any one of the aforementioned oils an hour before you hit the sack and wash your hair with a gentle shampoo first thing in the morning. Also, don’t forget to follow up the shampoo with a conditioner. Once done washing your hair, make it a point to use a towel to dry it as opposed to using a hair dryer.
  • When going out in the sun, as far as possible, try to wear a cap. If you are not a big fan of wearing caps, try protecting your hair from the heat of the sun by taking refuge under the shade of an umbrella.
  • If you’re the kind of a person who contributes most to the profits of your neighborhood salon, courtesy your frequent visits, it’s advisable to pay fewer visits to the same. Hair perming, hair straightening, hair coloring, etc. are nothing but bad news for your follicles, so as far as possible try abstaining from hair treatments.
  • Eat well, eat right! A balanced diet is the key to nourished hair and thriving hair follicles. You may also want to drink enough water. For great hair, it is best to drink a minimum of six to eight glasses of water per day.
