Child Proof Kitchen

Kitchen is one such place, where women spend a considerable amount of their time. You may be a housewife or working woman, the culinary duties are a must for every woman to fulfill. However, things become a little unmanageable once you become a mother. The extra care that your child demands is of prime importance and thus persuades you to be careful with regard to everything in the house, which might be of potent danger to your kid. This even includes the kitchen area, which stores many such objects that can hurt your child badly. So, whenever you are in kitchen and your child is around, it is necessary for you to take special care and pay attention. However, with a little tact and precaution, you can very well avoid the little accidents at home. Given below are some tips to child proof your kitchen for the sake of safety.
  • Be sure to keep matches, lighters, sharp utensils and household cleaners in cabinets, absolutely inaccessible to children.
  • In case you have low lying cabinets, which can be easily reached by kids, put child-safety latches on them.
  • If you have electric appliances, unplug them when not in use and keep cords out of reach of children. Also, ensure that the plug points have safety covers in them.
  • While handling or preparing hot liquids, make sure your child is not nearby. Place hot drinks separately, out of their reach.
  • For maximum safety, use the back burners of the stove and turn utensil handles toward the back.
  • Use safety features that secure free-standing ovens to the wall. This makes sure kids don’t have access to them and don’t suffer burns and other such injuries.
  • Another thing to be taken care of is tablecloths, as small children merrily pull them, thereby breaking glasses and plates and in turn hurting themselves.
  • Stools, chairs and other furniture should be kept away from counters and stoves. They should be at a considerable height and must be sturdy enough so that kids don’t knock them off.
  • Ensure that alcohol and other such beverage are kept locked away in a cupboard or a shelf and must remain out of the reach of children.
  • If possible, use a child-safety gate in your kitchen doorway to keep kids out, when you are not around.
