Removing Blood Stains From Carpet

Things Required
  • Cold Water
  • White Paper Towel or Cloth
  • Liquid Dish Wash Detergent
  • Vacuum Cleaner
Procedure
  • If the blood stain is still not dry, extract it from the carpet by rinsing the stained area with cold water. Blot the affected area with a clean white paper towel or cloth, dipped in cold water. Use a circular motion to remove the stain. Start working from the outermost edges of the stain towards the center. This will ensure that the stain does not spread.
  • Dilute a few drops of liquid dish wash detergent in a cup of cold water. Dip a clean cloth or paper towel in the solution and work it on the stained area. Do the step carefully, so that the stain does not spread to other unaffected areas of the carpet. Do not rub the cloth/paper towel too hard on the carpet, as this can damage its fiber.
  • Repeat the above step until you find that the blood stain is completely removed from the carpet.
  • Blot up excess water when you are finished with the work.
  • Allow the carpet to dry completely.
  • Vacuum clean the carpet, especially the affected area.
Tips
  • Working on fresh blood stain is easier than the dried one. So, start the process of removing the stain from the carpet as soon as you notice it.
  • Make sure that you use only cold water because, hot water will speed-up the drying and setting process.
  • Be careful, not to spread the stain to other parts of the carpet, when you are blotting the surface.
  • Do not rub too hard with the damp cloth/paper towel.
  • Avoid using harsh detergents on the carpet, as the chemicals in them may damage the fibers.
  • Bleaching agents are strict no-no, especially when the carpet is dark colored.
