Buying & Storing Tips

  • Choose mushrooms that do not have any wet slimy spots and are fresh and clean. Wrinkled mushrooms should always be discarded.
  • Dried varieties of the mushroom can be stored for a long time (six months to one year), if kept in a tightly sealed container, inside the freezer.
  • Crimini mushrooms are available for most part of the year and can be purchased in both the dried and fresh forms.
  • The ideal or the best way to store these mushrooms is by wrapping them loosely in a closed paper bag, spread out in a glass dish. Cover them with a moist cloth or wrap them in a damp cloth and then keep them in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. This will keep them fresh for a couple of days.
  • Crimini mushrooms tend to get dark as they age. So, always look for the ones that have a fresh tan or shade.
  • Pre-packed mushrooms can be stored for around a week, if stored in the refrigerator, in their original container.
