In fact, the dish is traditionally associated with the cities of Baltimore and Maryland. There are different ways and techniques of preparing crab cakes. Boardwalk and Restaurant are two common forms of crab cakes prepared in Maryland. The meat for making the cake can be taken from any species of crab available locally, but normally, blue crab meat and the endemic Dungeness crab are preferred above others. The two most common styles of preparing crab cakes are deep-frying and baking. These cakes are often prepared with no filler and are made of all-lump crabmeat, mixed with other ingredients, such as parsley, onions, eggs, and seasoning. Traditionally, the meat of blue crab is considered the best for this lip-smacking dish, albeit you can use crabs of any species. How To Prepare Crab Cakes
Frying Method
Ingredients
- 1 lbs Lump Crabmeat
- 4 tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp Bread Crumbs
- ½ tsp Yellow Mustard
- ¼ cup Fresh Ground Black Pepper
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- ¼ tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Crushed Crackers
- 1 Eggs (beaten)
- ½ cups Parsley (minced)
- 4 tbsp Olive Oil or Butter, for cooking
Method
- Clean the crab by discarding the shell and scoop out the meat.
- Add salt and pepper to it and marinate the meat properly.
- Mix all other dripping ingredients in another bowl and fold it into crabmeat.
- Now, add baking powder, parsley and half cup of crushed crackers.
- Make small cakes with the mixture and coat it with the remaining crushed crackers.
- Heat oil or butter in a frying pan, on a medium flame.
- Place the crab cakes gently on the pan and fry them until brown on each side (around 10 minutes).
- Serve hot, with lemon and red chili sauce.
Baking Method
Ingredients
- 1 pound Crabmeat
- 1 tbsp Bread Crumbs
- ½ cups Chopped Parsley
- 1 Egg (well beaten)
- 1 tbsp Mayonnaise
- ½ tsp Dry Mustard
- 2 tbsp Hot Pepper Sauce
- 2 tsp Salt
- Oil, for baking
Method
- Clean the crabmeat and remove any shell particles.
- Mix all the dry and wet ingredients in separate bowls.
- Gently combine them together and beat well.
- Make medium sized cakes with the mixture.
- Preheat the oven up to 250-300 degree Celsius.
- Place the cakes on the greased pan and bake them until brown (approximately 15-20 minutes).
- Serve hot with lemon and red chili sauce.
