Saint Patrick's Day, or more appropriately, St. Paddy's Day or Paddy's Day, is an annual feast day, which celebrates Saint Patrick, one of the patron saints of Ireland, and is generally celebrated on March 17. It is the day when people indulge in having green beer. In fact, a St Patrick Day celebration seems to be incomplete without green beer. It is the simplest preparation that you would have ever imagined! Green beer is the most effortless drink to make. In case, you do not believe us, read on to two simple and easy green beer recipes.
How To Make Green Beer
Simple Green Beer
  • Beer, preferably a Guinness or a Light Amber
  • Green Food Coloring 
  • To make green beer, the first step would be to take a clear glass or mug and chill it either in the freezer or in refrigerator. A warm glass does not serve the purpose of green beer, as it sucks out the flavor from the same.
  • Once the glass has been chilled, take out the beer. While a light color beer best suits the purpose, you can also go for darker beer to achieve the similar effect. Remember, even the darkest of beer can give the same result - a festive green color.
  • The next step would be to add the green coloring to the mug. A maximum of 2 to 3 drops would be sufficient to bring the color.
  • Once you have put in the color, pour the beer in the glass.
  • The festive green beer is ready to be served and enjoyed, to mark the arrival of St. Patrick’s Day. 
Green Beer In Leprechaun Style
  • Pale Colored Beer
  • Clear Glass or Mug
  • A Spoon
  • Food Coloring 
  • To make green beer in leprechaun style, you first need to pour the beer in a clean glass. Hold the glass at an angle of 45 degrees and let the beer strike the middle of the glass and slant its way downwards. This would allow minimum foam formation.
  • When the entire beet has been poured, add the food coloring. Add a drop or two of and stir it gently with the help of a spoon.
  • Now, add another two drops and continue until you have added about six drops of the food coloring.
  • You are sure to be surprised at the result. The green beer would be brighter than olive and surely be a great accompaniment to rejoice on St. Patrick’s Day. 
  • In case, you want to enhance the flavor and effect of the green beer, take a glass that has a large mouth.
  • At the time of freezing the glass, make sure that it is ice-cold. This would impart a dramatic effect to the green beer.
  • Though the flavor of the green beer is same as that of an uncolored, original beer, people still like to believe that green beer is different to taste. In case you really want to alter the flavor of green beer, just add a bit of lime. This would spark off the brightness of the beer and also change the flavor to some an extent.
  • Traditionally, light color beer is most preferred to create the green effect.
  • For those of you who are following the leprechaun style i.e. pouring the beer before adding the color, make sure you do not stir much, else you would beat out all of the carbonation, before the mixing is done.
