Cleaning a coffeemaker is not a daunting task. Follow the instructions to effectively clean the electric coffee maker.

How To Clean A Coffee Maker

We all love a hot coffee, as soon as we open our eyes in the morning. It is only, when the need to clean the electric coffee maker arises that coffee doesn’t seem to taste all that sweet. It’s really crazy! Now, electrical appliances are invented to make our lives easier right? How come they end up making our lives more complicated instead? For instance, electric coffee makers were invented to give a respite from the mess and complications that manual coffee drip machines caused. The manual coffee maker, however, seemed far easier to clean and was even low on maintainance as compared to the electric one. It could perhaps be reason why people are still reluctant to replace their beloved manual ‘kaapi’ makers with the electric version. Moreover, the chemical solutions that are used to clean them aren’t easily available in our country, yet. Well, all we can say to console ourselves is ‘you win some, you lose some’. Nevertheless, it is important to know how to clean the coffee maker, through and through – to get rid of salt deposits from hard water and leftover oily residue from coffee that go rancid with time. The following tips will help you clean your coffee maker better.

Tips For Cleaning Coffeemaker

Clean
The first thing, which you need to do, is to remove the parts, which can be removed from the coffeemaker. You could read the manual to know which parts can be removed. Mostly the filter basket and the pot can be removed. Now you can wash them in warm soapy water. Some coffeemakers have built-in filters, which can also be washed. The filters and pot should be washed at least three times a week.

Wipe It Down
Before you start the cleaning from inside, you need to wash it properly from the outside as well. Switch-off the power and unplug the coffee maker. Now take a damp sponge and wipe down all the surfaces properly from sides, front, back, not leaving the top, as it is the place, where most dust mounts up. Dusting it from outside is very essential not only for the proper functioning of your coffeemaker, but also because these accumulated dust may get into the maker and thus in your coffee.

Mix It Right
Here are a few cleaning mixtures that can be made at home using kitchen stuff and which not only clean the coffee maker but also rid it of any odour that it may emit. Mix half part hot water and half part vinegar and clean the coffeemaker with this solution. A pot of lukewarm water and two denture tablets (completely dissolved) also do the trick. Another solution, which would clean the coffeemaker well, is a blend of half a measure of citric acid with 4 cups of hot water.

Pour
Fix the filter into the coffee maker as usual and pour the cleaning mixture into the place where you would normally add water. Turn the coffee machine on.

Empty
Let the cleaning solution empty into the coffee pot or glass carafe. The entire mixture is emptied from the machine; if any of it remains, it might interfere with the process of coffee making next time, or spoil the taste.

Filter And Carafe
Now, turn the coffee maker off and remove the filter. Rinse the carafe and filter with the remainder of the cleaning solution.

Rinse
Now, add clean water into the coffee machine and turn it on. Empty all the water in the carafe, and repeat the rinsing a few more times, of the filter, the coffee machine, and the carafe.
