Flower essence therapy, developed by English Homeopath Edward Back, works to naturally fight ailments by addressing the emotional issues. Read on to know what exactly flower therapy is.

Flower Essence Therapy

Flower essence therapy works on an energetic level to restore the equilibrium of the body, mind and spirit. Edward Bach, an English physician and homeopath is considered to be the father of flower essence therapy. He premised the development of this unique therapy on the belief that behind all our diseases lie our fears, our anxieties, our greed, our likes and dislikes. Flower essences used in this therapy seek to address the underlying psycho-spiritual issues and promote an energetic shift in our mind and emotions, thereby achieving good health on all levels. However, the medical community is not convinced regarding the effectiveness of flower essence therapy. This is also due to the fact that the vibrational energy of the flowers is very difficult to be measured by the scientific methods. Flower essences continue to find favor among the holistic practitioners of medicine to address the emotional and spiritual imbalances in the patient.

Recent history
As soon as Edward Bach established a link between stress, emotions and illness some 70 years ago, he began to use flower remedies for treating several ailments. He discovered that certain flowers growing about in the English countryside have a tremendous ability to influence the emotional health of a person in very positive ways. Bach identified 38 flower remedies and a few years later, in 1979, the Flower Essence Society (FES) was established. A plethora of several new remedies was introduced by the FES, by using flowers indigenous to the western United States. This was followed by the development of many other flower essences across the country, as also in many other parts of the world.

How Do Flower Essences Work?
The functioning of the flower essences is similar to the way the homeopathic medicines work on our body. Flower essences tend to work through the various human energy fields, in turn influencing the mental, emotional and physical well-being. The most important aspect of flower essence therapy is that it works to re-balance the emotional states of the patient, which are seen to be the causative factors behind most of the illnesses. However, flower essences do not work as drugs and don’t change the moods by altering brain chemistry. Flower essences serve to realign the emotional self to the spiritual self and create a stimulating effect. To put it in perspective, flower essences help to clarify the questions rather than providing the answers.

Application Of Flower Essence
Flower essences are easy to use and also very safe. The flower drops can be directly taken from the bottle. Typically, a few drops are applied under the tongue. Alternatively, 3-4 drops of flower essence are mixed into a bottle of purified water, which is then sipped through the day. Special flower essence combinations are also prepared in one ounce dosage bottles, which normally lasts for 10-14 days. The stipulated time period of undertaking flower essence therapy depends on the particular problem the patient is suffering from.
