Basic Instructions 
  • Spring is the best time to plant ginger, whether you are doing that indoors or outdoors. The ideal temperature is 75 to 85 deg F.
  • Buy fresh ginger roots from the market, making sure to pick fat tubers, with numerous buds. 
Instructions (Growing Ginger in a Container) 
  • Take a planting container that has a diameter of around 14 inches and is 12 inches deep. At the same time, it should have a good drainage system.
  • Soak the tubers in warm water and leave overnight.
  • Fill the container with potting soil, which has been enriched beforehand, with plenty of compost.
  • In the morning, set the tubers in the pot, just below the soil surface. Make sure to space them evenly and have the buds facing up.
  • Place the container, indoors or outdoors, at a place that has a light shade.
  • In the initial days following planting, water the container lightly.
  • As soon as you see the growth starting, water the plant more heavily.
  • In the winter season, plants go dormant. So, you need to keep them dry.
  • After the outside temperature crosses the 50 deg F mark, move the container outside.
  • Always keep the plant shielded from high winds. At the same time, if you see the temperature dropping below 50 deg F, bring it inside.
  • It will take around 10 to 12 months for the plant to reach maturity and grow to a height of 2 to 4 feet.
  • Clip young, tender stems anytime.

  • Choose such a site in your garden that receives light shade and has rich, moist but well-drained soil.
  • Work plenty of compost in the soil, to ensure the right combination.
  • Soak the tubers in warm water and leave them overnight.
  • In the morning, set the tubers in the soil, just under the surface. Make sure to have the buds facing up.
  • In the initial days following planting, water the container lightly.
  • As soon as you see the growth starting, water the plant more heavily.
  • Make sure to provide the plant protection from high winds. If you see the temperature dipping below 50 deg F, cover it properly.
  • It will take around 10 to 12 months for the plant to be mature and grow to a height of 2 to 4 feet.
