Rock music is not something that is limited only to the west. In India also, there are a number of rock bands that have attained heights of popularity amongst the masses. Indian rock basically comprises of the elements of both Indian music and mainstream rock. Avial is a very popular Malayalee rock band from Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala). Much similar to the traditional recipe of Kerala cuisine - Avial - the rock band consists of artists belonging to different genres of music, which is clearly reflected in the songs composed by it. The masterpiece of Avial rock band was its album released in 2007, with the same name.

 

‘Indian Ocean’ is a contemporary rock band from Delhi, the capital city of India. The rock band has so far compiled music from different genres, including fusion, Indian, rock and jazz. It started its journey towards exploring and creating memorable songs in the year 1990.

With a number of live performances and original numbers to its credit, Parikrama continues to be one of the most popular rock bands from Delhi. The band came into existence on June 17, 1991. The highlight of the band is its use of classical music instruments, like mridangam, tabla and flute, together with conventional instruments used for western music, including guitar, drums and keyboards.

 

Cactus is the first professional rock band of Kolkata. The rock band was officially formed in 1992. Since its inception, it has performed live on as many as 2000 stages and continues to deliver mind-blowing performances year by year. The rock band compiles songs in the language closer to its soil - Bangla.

 

Formed in 1996, ‘Thermal and a Quarter’ is a renowned rock band from Bangalore, India. The rock band is renowned for its focus on original music. It has gained the repute of being one of the pioneering Indian rock bands. Till date, Thermal and a Quarter has released four albums.
