Zor Lagaa Ke Haiya Movie'Zor Laga Ke Haiya', based around the mindless cutting of trees that is taking place in the name of urbanization, ran a serious risk of looking like a lecture on environment abuse. However, debutante director Girish managed to put his point across beautifully, while carefully avoiding the role of a preacher. In fact, one of the best things about the movie is that it actually revolves around kids, without any adult playing the role of a hero. Though the film is moralistic in its very nature, it is surely not without the entertainment quotient.

'Zor Laga Ke Haiya' has the kids really acting the children we see in the present generation. While they have their fantasies, they are also acutely aware of the world around them. Their take on filmy characters, like Spiderman, Superman, RGV's Sarkar and even the Mona Darling of yesteryears, was quite enjoyable. However, the movie surely suffers on one count - the inclusion of unnecessary characters and subplots. For instance, there was no need to bring Riya Sen in bits and parts and the movie could have done without Seema Biswas as well.

Coming down to performances, right from the villains to the kid aggressors, there was no one we could complain about. Gulshan Grover and Mahesh Manjrekar acted just like a villain is supposed to behave, when the kids are involved. As for the child actors, all of them, Ashwin Chitale, Hardik, Meghan, Ayesha and Ritwik, were simply superb. As for our Disco Dancer Mithun, he once again proved how fine an actor he is. If you are not looking for mushy romance, too many thrills or reality-based themes, then 'Zor Laga Ke Haiya' is definitely worth watching!

Zor Lagaa Ke Haiya Pre-release Review

These days, more and more directors are coming out with movies that carry a social message. The latest to join this bandwagon is Girish Girija Joshi, whose next release 'Zor Lagaa Ke Haiya' lays emphasis on the mindless cutting of trees taking place today. Produced by Kartikeya Talreja and Basant Talreja, it will be released on 12th June 2009, under the banner 'Gemini Pictures'. The star cast of the movie includes Mithun Chakraborty, Riya Sen, Sachin Khedekar, Gulshan Grover, Mahesh Manjrekar, Seema Biswas, Raj Zutshi, Ashwin Chitale, Ritwik Tyagi, Meghan Jadhav, Ayeshka Kaduskar and Hardik S. Thakkar.

The story of 'Zor Lagaa Ke Haiya' revolves around a 12 year-old boy, Karan (Meghan). He is leading a happy and blissful life, where he has a loving family, attends a good school and boasts of a great circle of friends to play with. In the evenings, you can find him playing cricket around a tree, with his group of friends - Ritesh (Ritvik Tyagi), the whiz kid who never fails to amaze people; Laddu (Hardik Thakkar), the fatso who is often the butt of jokes and Priya (Ayesha Kaduskar), who is ready to go along with whatever Karan says. All of them are leading a serene life, which is full of fun and games.

Outside the housing society of this group of friends lives a mean-looking beggar (Mithun Chakraborty), whom they totally dislike. He is always seen carrying a mysterious bag and has been nicknamed by the kids, as 'Raavan'. Unknown to Karan and his group of friends, there is a 13 year-old kid Ram (Ashwin Chitale) who loves to watch them playing cricket in the evening. The kid of a laborer family, and a child-laborer himself (at a construction site), he is forced by the site manager Gupta to work long hours. One day, in school, Karan suddenly gets an idea of making a tree house, as a lookout post for tracking Raavan.

In order to make the house, on the tree around which they play cricket, Karan starts looking for wooden planks and ends up at the same construction site where Ram works. The latter, being kind hearted as he is, saves Karan from the ire of Gupta. Soon, the two kids become friends and Ram, with the dream of becoming an architect, agrees to help Karan's gang in building the tree house. The house gets built and soon, becomes a safe haven for all the kids. However, one day, they come to know that Raavan is also using the tree house, as a sleeping place in night.

As Karan and his bunch of friends begin a fight to drive away Raavan from the tree house, they gain an understanding of the problems faced by homeless beggars like Raavan. Soon, a truce begins between the beggar and kids. However, one fine day, builder Bakshi and his associate Gupta decide to cut the tree, in order to make an access road. This leads to a full-scale battle, with the kids and Raavan on one side and Bakshi and Gupta on the other. What will happen now? Will the kids be able to save their tree house, the beggar his night shelter and Ram the only permanent home he has ever known?
