Finally, after a very long time, there is one movie that you would love to see on the big screen. Refreshingly different from the usual coming-of-age Bollywood movies, ‘Wake Up Sid’ has a beautiful Wake Up Sid Moviesoul as well. One of the best parts of the movie is that you can easily relate with Sid (Ranbir Kapoor), as there is a little bit of him (if not total) in everyone one of us. Though the basic concept behind the movie, of a carefree young man who unintentionally starts on a road to self discovery, is not new, its execution entirely is.

The beauty of ‘Wake Up Sid’ lies in the honesty with which all the characters have been portrayed, bringing them so close to the real life. Be it the problem of English-speaking Sid not being on the same wavelength as his Punjabi-speaking Mom or the Sid who is simply wonderful with his friends, we identify with him completely. The simple dialogues of the movie make it all the more easy to relate with. The engaging drama that Ayan Mukherji brings forth completely absorbs you in its convincing tale.

The good part about the ‘transformation’ that Sid undergoes in the movie is that it comes over a period of time, not overnight or within the space of a song. However, the movie is not without its share of flaws. For instance, it completely overlooks the ‘sexual’ awakening that has become a part of the growing up of the present generation. Then, the lavish apartment of Aisha (Konkana), who’s just landed up a job interview, is beyond us. The first half of the movie is even a bit slow, but it surely lays the perfect ground for the interesting second half.

Drawing your attention away from the flaws is Ranbir Kapoor, who is so effortless in his acting, while being convincing all the time. He infuses soul into ‘Sid’ and makes him so real. It’s Ranbir’s best performance till date. Complementing him is Konkana, who is, once again, at her very best. Her chemistry with Ranbir is very sublime, with a comfort zone that most of the real-life couples seem to be missing today. Anupam Kher is excellent in his controlled act, while Supriya Pathak brings depth to her part. Sid’ friends Shikha Talsania and Namit Das are simply outstanding, while Kashmira Shah came across as a pleasant surprise.

Wake Up Sid Pre-release Review
‘Wake Up Sid’ marks the directorial debut of Aryan Mukherjee, who has also penned the story of his first film. The film is a concoction of two genres: romance and comedy. Produced by Karan Johar and Hiroo Johar, the star ensemble of ‘Wake Up Sid’ includesRanbir Kapoor, Konkona Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, and Supriya Pathak. The successful musical troika of Shankar, Ehsan and Loy has composed music for the lyrics of the film, which have been written by none other than Javed Akhtar.

‘Wake Up Sid’ unfolds the story of Siddharth Mehra (Ranbir Kapoor), whose life is lazy, carefree and unmotivated (till all goes topsy-turvy, following a series of changes). Sid is a happy-go-lucky guy, whose world is breezy, relaxed, and free from all troubles and responsibilities. The 'can't do without' list of his life includes his friends, camera, car and his X- box 360. He kills time, hanging out with his two best friends - Rishi (Namit Das) and Laxmi (Shikha Talsania). For some reason, he rarely speaks to his mother Sarita (Supriya Pathak)

Sid, as any other rich boy, lavishes on the hard earned wealth of his father Ram Mehra (Anupam Kher). However, for all his recklessness and unruliness, Sid is a genuinely sweet and funny guy, who is also a true friend. Aisha Banerjee, a writer from Kolkata who aspires to realize her writing dreams in Mumbai, bumps into Sid the day she lands in the city of her dreams. She is this driven, modern, ambitious woman, who soon finds compatibility (nobody could have guessed this) with Sid and he becomes her first friend in Mumbai.

Aisha settles down with the help of Sid and his gang and time flies by in partying, going on long drives and doing nothing at all. The wake up call for Sid rings with a series of unlikely events in his life, which persuade him to take stock of his rather, predictable life. Will Sid be able to finally figure out the motive of his life? Will his life change forever? Slated for an October 2 release, ‘Wake Up Sid’ will answer the obvious questions. The film promises to be a welcome change from the regular Bollywood Bhelpuri mix.
