After watching the promos of ‘Tum Mile’, where both Soha Ali and Emran Hashmi are shown standing in
waist-deep water, you go to the theater expecting a movie that revolves around the floods of Mumbai, the deluge that changed the life of so many people. However, what you get is the story of two estranged lovers, brought together by fate once again. Not that the love angle does not impress, but the problem is that ‘Tum Mile’ remains focused at that end only and the ‘flooding of Mumbai’ is reduced to a mere backdrop. In fact, the moment you start getting engaged with the ‘flooding’ part, the movie comes back to the love story again.

In fact, the moment you start getting engaged with the ‘flooding’ part, the movie comes back to the love story again.Another factor that works against ‘Tum Mile’ is the clichés that have been used therein. It’s the typical ‘rich girl meets poor boy story’. Emran Hashmi is a struggling artists, with the archetypal traits, like extreme outbursts, need for solitude, etc. On the other hand, Soha is the typical ‘rich daughter’, who is in the habit of controlling things and is much more successful than his partner. Even the scenes where hero risks his life to save a child or has to see his friend dying are just so ‘usual’. On top of that, the flashbacks are too many and even the eventual meeting of the two lover is quite predictable. In short, novelty is something that you will not find here.
As for the love story, Emran Hashmi and Soha Ali make the characters come to life and mange to make it convincing. Both the actors deliver commendable performance and the ups and down in their relationship have been brought out beautifully. In technical aspects, the cinematography is excellent, especially the striking shots of South Africa. Even the music is quite soothing and falls easy on their ears. This film is strictly meant for those who are looking forwards to a romantic flick. For those like me, who were expecting a take on the disaster that shook Mumbai, it’s better to sit at home and enjoy a hot cuppa in this chilly weather!
Tum Mile Pre-release Review
'Tum Mile', a blatant romantic flick, is Kunal Deshmukh's second directorial venture after 'Jannat' (2008), which was an average fare. The movie stars Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan, both yearning for a good run and a dash of luck at the box office. Pritam has composed music for the lyrics penned by Sayeed Quadri and Kumaar. Some of the tracks have already created ripples, winning appreciation by the music critics. 'Tum Mile' is slated for a release on November 13, 2009.

The plot of 'Tum Mile' unfolds the unfortunate saga of two star-crossed ex-lovers Ali Taha (Emraan Hashmi) and Sanjana (Soha Ali Khan), who could not take their relationship to its logical conclusion. On a stormy night accompanied by a heavy downpour (July 26, 2005), when Mumbai is marred with flood, the ex-lovers cross paths, bumping into each other after a long gap of six years. An awkward, unanticipated encounter on a flight back to Mumbai soon makes way for a roller-coaster ride, replete with topsy-turvy situations.
Soon, the ex-lovers Ali and Sanjana find themselves in disarray. Circumstances force both of them, who now belong to different worlds, to stick together, even as Mumbai reels under turmoil in its darkest hours, facing cataclysmic losses. The movie captures their changing perspectives from the past to the present. It shows two contrasting personalities falling in love, for opposites can't resist getting attracted to each other, only to fall out and separate later, due to their irreconcilable differences.
As fate would have it, their present meeting unleashes demons of the past and reveals their insecurities and hidden fears. The storm inside is accompanied with their struggle to make thorough the stormiest Mumbai night. Will they be able to see the light of day, surviving a night threatening to swallow the entire city? Will they reunite and give each other another chance or get back to their own distant worlds? Viewers will get to know the answers to these obvious questions only on November 13, when the movie will hit the theaters. Till then, it's certainly not anybody's guess!
