Tata’s 1 Lakh Car In Delhi Auto Expo 2008

The much talked about 1 lakh car being launched by Tata Motors will be showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in 2008. So you can expect a lot of crowd around the Tata Motors stall this year at the Auto Expo. The car is said to resemble the small car Matiz, by Daewoo Motors. It will be a four seater car with a rear engine. The 1-lakh car, as it is called now, will be launched in 2008 and in the next four years, Tata expects to produce at least one million units.

The production plants will be beefed up for manufacturing ample number of cars once the Indian audience accepts it. This has been Ratan Tata’s dream project and he is making sure that this car is available to each and every Indian who can afford to spend a lakh. The car has a brilliant future in India and requests from abroad are coming in already for setting up manufacturing units there. Tata Motors will construct a number of units across the country with a centralized engine production facility to achieve the intended production capacity.

The 1-lakh car is said to give 40% better fuel-efficiency than most of the existing petrol cars right now. The car has both, petrol and diesel variants and in 2008 the petrol version will be launched. The diesel version will be launched somewhere in 2009. The 800cc engine will have 2 cylinders that are designed to give a better mileage due to better fuel combustion. If the audience laps up the design and the mileage turns out to be good, there is not reason why this car should not dominate the Indian roads.
