Tata’s Nano hasn’t started even its bookings yet and cars are lining up to give it competition. Bajaj’s small car, GM Motors’ small car and now, we have a ‘tiny’ car from Bengal. Yes, you read it right! Tara International, a Bengal-based automobile company, has announced plans of launching the world’s cheapest small car, to be known as ‘Tara Tiny’. The company is an arm of the Bengal Enamel and has revealed plans of unveiling the car at a price of Rs 99,999 i.e. less than one lakh rupees (excluding VAT and other taxes).
The car is affordable, not only from the price point of view, but also from the point of view of operating cost. This is because Tiny will be a battery-operated green car, which will have an operating cost of hardly 50-70 paise per km. For manufacturing the car, Tara International has joined hands with Aucma, a leading electrical vehicles and appliances company of China. Tara International will be sourcing the components (60-70%) for ‘Tiny’ from Aucma. ‘Tiny’ will be a four-seater car and is expected to be launched in the next 4-5 months.
The speed of the car is expected to be around 50-70 km/hr. Going by the plans of the company, you can get all set to witness three more electric cars in the near future. Tara International is planning to unveil three other electric cars, to be known as Tara Titu, Tara Micro and Tara Mini. The vehicles can be recharged at 220 volts, through a 15 amp socket. The price of the cars introduced by Tara is expected to be between Rs 99,999 & 5.5 lakh. The production does not stop here. The company is developing plans for launching buses & two-wheelers too.
