However, those who have a fair skin need to get tanned in order to get the look. One of the most popular ways of getting a dusky look is by sun-bathing and getting a decent tan. The problem with this method is that in the process, you are at the mercy of the weather. Another common and preferred way of getting a tan is through a tanning bed. Not only does it save you from the effort of sitting outdoors, but also enables you to get tanned even when the weather is cloudy. If you are planning to go for indoor tanning, with the tanning bed, keep the following advice in mind.

Tanning Bed Tips 
  • You can either buy a tanning bed for yourself or go to the saloon and use the services of the one available there. In case you go for the former, make sure to research a lot and go for the best one.
  • The amount of UVA and UVB rays that reach your skin, and tan your body, will depend upon the efficiency of your tanning lotion. It is advisable to use hydrating tanning lotions, as they will help keep your skin young and safe.
  • Do not stay in the tanning bed for too much time, in the hope of getting a quick tan. Stay in the bed for 20-30 minutes on a day. Otherwise, you might end up damaging your skin.
  • Make sure to protect your eyes while you are in the tanning bed. At the same time, do not wear contact lines and try to use goggles that will result in minimum tan lines on your face.
  • Always take a shower before undergoing a tanning session and if possible, use a moisturizing soap while bathing.
  • Never ever take more than one tanning session in a day and always let a couple of days pass between two tanning sessions.
  • You need to keep your skin moisturized during the tanning session. So, try to go for a moisturizing tanning lotion.
  • After you have been able to build your base tan, continue with the tanning sessions around two times every week. This will help you maintain that dusky look.
  • If you finding it very difficult to get or maintain a tan, try using a tanning accelerator.
  • A proper diet goes a long way in maintaining a good tan. Make sure to include foods containing beta-carotene, like carrots, radishes, tomatoes, citrus, celery, broccoli, parsley and lettuce, in your diet.
