Sirf Movie

Director: Rajaatesh Nayar
Producer: Ghanshyam Patel, Kanu Patel, Sanjay Kayadia
Banner: Seven Eagle Productions
Music: Shibani Kashyap and Sohail Sen
Lyrics: Mehboob
Star Cast: Kay Kay Menon, Manisha Koirala, Sonali Kulkarni, Ranbir Shorey, Parveen Dabbas, Rituparna Sengupta, Ankur Khanna and Nauheed Cyrusi

Revolving around the same background as ‘Life in A Metro’, of some married and some unmarried couples who come across one another, Sirf could in no way match up to it. In fact, at times, the movie generates a feeling of déjà vu in the audience, especially in case of the story of Kay Kay Menon and Manisha Koirala (busy husband, with no time for wife). One of the major problems with Sirf is that the sub-plots seem to be going at parallel levels.

Till the interval, you hardly notice any connection between the stories of the four different couples. Only when you come back after the break do you start noticing the blending of the four different tales. Though the storyline is not bad, it lacked good direction. Even the editing of the movie is not at all convincing. If all this wasn’t enough, even the music of the movie ‘Sirf’ failed to generate any interest amidst the viewers.

In terms of performances, there is not even a single person who can be said to be exceptionally good. While some of them, like Parvin Dabas, could have done with a little subtlety, others, like Kay Kay Menon, should have been given a strong role to give likewise performance. In short, ‘Sirf - Life Looks Greener on the Other Side’ surely made you want to move over to the other side. This movie is definitely not worth spending 150 bucks!

Sirf Pre-release Review

SirfAfter a long sabbatical, Manisha Koirala is back in action. The lady who won our hearts with ‘1942, A Love Story’ will be seen in Seven Eagle Productions’ ‘Sirf’. The movie has been produced by Ghanshyam Patel, Kanu Patel and Sanjay Kayadia. Rajaatesh Nayar, who has worked as an Assistant Director for China Gate, Pukar and Lajja, will make his directorial debut with Sirf. The star cast includes Kay Kay Menon, Manisha Koirala, Sonali Kulkarni, Ranbir Shorey, Parveen Dabbas, Rituparna Sengupta, Ankur Khanna and Nauheed Cyrusi.

Sirf revolves around the life of four couples, living in the same city but belonging to different strata. The problem with them is the one that almost every one of us faces, the thinking that the life of other couples is better than theirs. The four couples comprise of Kay Kay Menon and Manisha Koirala, Sonali Kulkarni and Ranbir Shorey, Parveen Dabbas and Rituparna Sengupta, Ankur Khanna and Nauheed Cyrusi. Every couple faces it own set of problems, however somehow the problem of the first seems trivial to the second and vice versa.

One couple is happy in all respects of life, but the only problem is that they do not seem to be in love anymore. The second one has loads of love in its relationship, but is facing monetary problems. The third one is still to get over the problem of not having trust on each other. The fourth couple, which has all the things that the other three couples lack in, is facing the problem of not getting enough time to nurture it. All of them are based in Mumbai, a city that never sleeps and always seems to be in a rush, just like its people.

As a movie, Sirf delves on how the pace of the city affects the life of the people living in it, what kinds of problems they face and how they tackle them. It tells us that life never stops for anyone and we have to move on with time. As the films starts drawing to an end, the couples come across each other on the crossroads of life and stumble upon the possibility of an event that can solve all their problems. Whether the event is reality or a just a figment of their imagination, only time will tell!
