Short Kut Pre-release Review
Considering the fact that 'Shortkut - The Con is On' is a copy of a South Indian flick, it defeats the very aim it intended to convey - way to success is not through 'shortcuts'. Coming down to the entertainment quotient of the film, it hits as low as the floor. Though the basic premise of the movie is not bad per se, the way it has been translated into a script is completely faulty. On top of that, excessive use of clichés makes it become all the more irritating. Though the movie started on a good note, it keeps on deteriorating with the passing time.
Touted to be a situational comedy, 'Shortkut' fails to bring even a smile on your face. It changes the track too many times. It starts with the struggle that newcomers have to face in the industry, then moves over to the love track between an assistant director and a reigning actress and finally goes to a non-entity becoming a superstar by cheating someone who is really capable. The characterization is weak, while the screenplay is patchy. Too many extras have been used in almost every other scenes and none of them knows how to act.
The music is simply lousy, while the jokes make you feel like crying, rather than bringing out a chuckle. The few laughs that you enjoy are at the expense of Akshay and Arshad's comic timing. In fact, the two actors have tried to give the best performance they could, considering the many flaws 'Shorkut' had. Amrita Rao does not have too much of a role and tries too hard to look 'hot', but definitely lacks the oomph factor. Chunky Pandey is not bad, while Ali Asgar simply irritates you. In short, better take a 'shortkut' and head straight to your house, rather than going to the multiplex for this movie.
Short Kut Pre-release Review
It has been a long time since a comedy flick made your sides split, right! Coming to end the drought is Anil Kapoor's production 'Short Kut - The Con Is On'. Shot in the charming locales of Thailand, the movie promises to provide you the correct dose of humor, combined with emotions that will tug at your heartstrings. It has been directed by Neeraj Vora and will be released on 10th July 2009, under the banners 'Anil Kapoor Film Company' and 'Indian Films'. The music for 'Short Kut' has been provided by Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, while Javed Akhtar is the lyricist. The star cast of this comedy film includes Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi, Amrita Rao and Chunkey Pandey. The story of 'Short Kut' revolves around the life of two con artists - a struggling director and a wannabe actor. The crazy situations they face in the 'city of glamour and hope' is what forms the basic idea behind the flick.
Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna), an aspiring assistant director, is struggling to make it big in the film industry. Working on the same lines is Chandu (Arshad Warsi), a wannabe junior artiste. While Shekhar is an extremely capable and confident person, Chandu is nothing short of a joker, who thinks himself to be the next superstar-in-the-making. One day, they happen to meet each other and develop a friendly acquaintance.
Shekhar has a prized script in his hand and one fine day, Chandu manages to steal it. Soon, Chandu finds himself on the road to super stardom, all on the basis of Shekhar's script. Hurt and miserable, Shekhar plunges into depression and soon, his wife Mansi (Amrita Rao) also leaves him. Now, Shekhar has only one aim in life - to get even with Chandu. As the film moves ahead, a hilarious fable of con, trickery, fame and the consequent descent comes up.
