Unlike those typical “patriotic” films, where they show two rival countries spewing venom at each other and indulging in gory bloodshed, Shaurya is not about rival countries or political unrest. It is about individuals who have been living life in a certain way and how one small incident has the capacity to change minds and personalities, completely. Two friends, pitted against each other in a court room, an aggressive brigadier who wants to get a “culprit” hanged at any cost and the so called culprit knowing crucial information that leaves you stunned by the end of the film when revealed.

The film is handled exceptionally well and for once, the climax leaves you truly speechless. The tension is built up gradually and the director makes sure that when you get to know the crux of the story, you remain glued to your seat. This is where it definitely scores brownie points. The tagline of the film is justified in every sense of the word - 'It takes courage to make right…right'. Though flaws are there in the script, the treatment this movie has got deserves applause as it hides all the flaws. The two hour movie starts to drag in the latter half but gathers momentum soon.

Director Samar Khan knows how to extract stellar performances from his talented star cast. Cinematography is par excellence and so is the script writing. Music is good and soothing, though it does not have much scope in a serious movie like this. Rahul Bose and Kay Kay are definitely show-stealers and their performances speak for themselves. Deepak Dobriyal, the character in question does a pretty good job and even though most of the film requires him to be silent, it exudes power.

Jaaved Jaffrey is pretty decent and performs with élan. The ladies have done a great job as well. Seema Biswas, Minissha Lamba and Amrita Rao are noteworthy and give out really good performances. This film will definitely attract those who want to see good performances, solid script and want to feel like they have seen a brilliant movie after a really long time. Hopefully, word of mouth publicity should make up for the lack of good promotion of the movie.

Shaurya Pre-release Review
ShauryaThe title of the film itself makes one sit up and take notice. Shaurya is courage, bravery, valor and honor; all in one. Shaurya is the story of justice, faith, honor and belief in oneself that is put to some of life’s worst challenges. The movie talks of thick friendships and self-confidence that seem to waver when life throws tough questions and situations. The movie is set to release on 4th April 2008. One can expect a good script and good performances since the star cast boasts of names like Rahul Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Javed Jaffrey and Seema Biswas.

The story revolves around Captain Javed (Deepak Dobriyal), who is being wronged by his country for taking the life of another officer along with charges of mutiny and treason. He is tried in the court of law but the captain does not utter a single word as to what made him kill the officer. He believes the truth is too hard to digest. Two ambitious lawyers and best friends, Akash (Jaaved Jaffrey) and Siddhant (Rahul Bose), are assigned this task and travel to Srinagar, only to discover a truth that will completely alter the way they think about life. Akash believes in living life by the rules and will go to any lengths to make the rules beneficial to him. For him, winning the case is more important than anything else.

Siddhant on the other hand is a person who was not really interested in joining the defence and in fact, does not even want to stay in this country after his father, an army officer, died while serving his country. His plan is to start a bungee jumping school in New Zealand. As they both start to unravel this case bit by bit, they discover information that makes this case all the more complicated and startling. An ambitious journalist Kavya (Minissha Lamba), Col. Pratap (Kay Kay Menon) who wants Javed to be hanged, etc, all become crucial parts of the story. Everyone wonders as to why Javed is not speaking the truth and believe there is much more to this case than what is observable. Watch the movie to discover unspoken truth!
