On 2nd December 2007, people glued themselves to the television sets as Sony entertainment channel aired the most-waited event of the year. Yes, we are talking about the Seventh Indian Telly Awards. The confident Ram Kapoor aka Jai Walia and ravishing Roshni Chopra, otherwise known as Pia of popular TV serial ‘Kasamh Se’ hosted this glamorous event. This time, the Indian Telly Popular Awards had 37 categories, popular amongst them being Best Actor (Popular and Critics - Male and Female), Best TV Daily, Best TV Weekly, Best Continuing TV show, Best Production House, Best Talent Show, The Hall of Fame Award and Contribution to Television Award.
While Prachi Desai alias Bani of ‘Kasamh Se’ won the award for the Best Actress, the Best Actor Award was bagged by Ram Kapoor for the same serial. ‘Zee TV’ ruled the roster for being the Hindi Entertainment Channel of the year. It must be swollen with pride because of its serial ‘Kasamh Se’ that got the award for the Best Drama. Once again, ‘Kyunki… Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ made its mark when its entire crew went to the stage to receive the award for the Best Continuing Show. Siddhartha and Anita Kaul Basu together, received the Hall of Fame Award.
Sharad Malhotra also called Sagar Singh of TV series ‘Bannoo Mein Teri Dulhan’ got the Critic’s choice award for best Actor, while Smriti Irani akaVasudha of ‘Viruddh’ became the Best actress in this category. ‘Banoo Mein Teri Dulhan’ of Shakuntalam Films was proud to receive the award for the best daily soap on Indian Television, whereas ‘Dharti Ka Veer Yodha Prithviraj Chauhan’ picked up the trophy for the best weekly show. ‘Kasamh Se’once more,got the glare of publicitywhen Jai Walia and Bani came on the stage to collect the award for the Best Couple.
Ekta Kapoor, the Queen of TV Soaps, another time made her father - Jeetendra, proud when Balaji Telefilms was declared to be the Best Production House. The conjoined twins ‘AmberDhara’ won the hearts of everyone with their first live performance at the event. As they tapped their feet to ‘Hum to aise hai bhaiya…’ the audience got enthralled to see their energy levels. Eijaaz Khan, Anita Hassnandani, Sayantani Ghosh, Rajashri Thakur Vaidhya, Mona Singh, Urvashi Dholakia, Smriti Iraani, Mouni Roy, Naman Shaw and Jay Bhanushali also marked the award function with their dynamic performances.
Kunal and Leena Bhandula, the duo of husband and wife, got the credit of designing the grand stage for the event. Fazilla and Kamna of SOL Productions handled the Creative Direction and TV Production. ‘Om Shanti Om’ famed choreographer Geeta Kapoor,made the celebrities dance to her steps for the live wire performances presented throughout the ceremony. The 7th Indian Telly Awards were sponsored by popular brands like Sony Entertainment Television, Zee TV, Network 18, Dainik Bhaskar, Bright Outdoors and Radio Mirchi.
